After a while, Netflix finally has a new title holder for the most popular Non-English language film. And this title, even with 2 weeks to go for completing a whole month of streaming, has already crossed the previous title holder. Yes, we are talking about one of the most talked about movies in the last 2 weeks- the German title ‘Troll’.
As the name suggests, the movie is a Norwegian monster film that follows the events that ensue after a troll is awakened in a Norwegian mountain. We see the events unfold from the eyes of our main protagonist- Nora Tidemann, a palaeontology who is brought into the fold by the government to find the reason for the havoc being caused.
The movie, unlike many of the movies in the genre, is a well-made film. With impressive visuals and a good storyline, it is no surprise that the movie will do well on OTT. However, the huge reception the movie has got is no small feat. The ending of the movie suggested the awakening of another troll and as per reports, it is expected that the film will have at least a sequel.
The previous title holder for the most popular Non-English language film on Netflix was the German horror thriller film ‘Blood Red Sky’. A vampire film, the title had garnered 110M+ viewing hours on Netflix during its first 28 days. In comparison, despite just being 2 weeks since its release, ‘Troll’ has clocked a gigantic number of 128M+ viewing hours on the streamer.
As per streaming data collection site FlixPatrol, among all titles on Netflix this week, ‘Troll’ stands at No.6 in India and No.2 worldwide. With 2 weeks yet to go, the final viewing numbers of the movie will be huge.
With a decent story backed by good performances, ‘Troll’ is certainly worth checking out. If you haven’t watched it yet, this is your cue. The movie is available on Netflix in English and Hindi audios, besides the original Norwegian audio.
