Hollywood production houses seem to be going on somewhat of a rampage during the last couple of days with multiple companies announcing various sequels and reboots. In fact, there have been 5 reboots & sequels as well as 1 remake announced. With reboots, sequels and remakes flooding the film market over the past few years with growing success, production companies are looking into their film archives to revive/recreate the magic of their previous hits. Here is the latest news on the six projects announced so far:

1. Night Has Fallen
Gerard Butler is returning with a new installment in ‘The Fallen’ series, titled ‘Night Has Fallen’. The actor is set to reprise his role of Mike Banning, a former Army Ranger who worked as an agent for the Secret Service.
The series started off with ‘Olympus Has Fallen’ (2013), which was later followed by its sequels — ‘London Has Fallen’ (2016) and ‘Angel Has Fallen’ (2019). The films have collectively earned $520 million at the global box office. Ric Roman Waugh will return to direct the fourth installment in the franchise and he will work on the script with Robert Kamen. ‘Olympus Has Fallen’ is currently available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

2. Bloodshot 2 (Working Title)
‘Bloodshot’ which was recently confirmed to be under development, has confirmed that Vin Diesel will return to the superhero sequel as its primary protagonist. The film is based on the Valiant Comics created fictional superhero, Bloodshot. The first film stars Diesel as a soldier who gets killed in action. He is then recreated from his original host body with advanced cybernetics which gives him superhero abilities.
‘Bloodshot’ earned only $33.45 million against its $45 million budget, but this was because the coronavirus pandemic shut down theaters and cinema chains to stop the spread of the deadly virus. But despite the setback, the Valiant Entertainment adaptation was a great success on digital platforms. ‘Bloodshot’ is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

3. A Quiet Place 3 (Working Title)
The John Karinski masterpiece which was both a critical and commercial hit is planning for a third film in the franchise …before the second one has even dropped yet. True, the second film in the installment was meant to be released in September of this year, but unfortunately had to be postponed to April 2021 due to the on-going pandemic.
This third film is said to be more of a spin-off than a sequel to the original franchise with Paramount Pictures getting Jeff Nichols to write and direct this film based on “Karinski’s idea”. The third movie is said to be gearing up for a 2022 year release.

4. The Mummy Spinoff
Universal is planning to reboot ‘The Mummy’, with the ‘Scorpion King’ spin-off starrer Dwayne Johnson set to produce the film franchise. ‘The Mummy Returns’ was “The Rock’s” first ever silver screen performance and he is excited to return to the franchise that helped kick start his movie career. But if it is a reboot, we should then be looking at a movie without Tom Cruise, Russell Crowe or Sophia Boutella (who all appeared in 2017’s ‘Mummy’).

5. Peacemaker Movie (Working Title)
We all knew this John Cena led web series was in the making since James Gunn had announced it. This television show has announced a heavy cast with ‘Orange Is The New Black’s’ Danielle Brooks, ‘American Pie Presents: The Book of Love’s’ Jennifer Holland, Terminator 2: Judgment Day’s’ Robert Patrick and ‘Patriot’s’ Chris Conrad all set to joing the series and portray prominent characters on screen. The streaming series will be released only after ‘The Suicide Squad’ has come out and it has been scripted by Gunn. The series is set to come out on HBOMax, but no release date has been set, as of yet.

6. The People Under The Stair Remake
This classic horror film is going to be remade with “horror-comedy king” Jordan Peele set to write and direct the remake. The 1991 film will be remade for the 21st century with multiple critics expecting the film to be even better when it will be in Peele’s hands.
Wes Craven’s horror comedy is about a Black family living in Los Angeles who are in the midst of getting evicted by their landlords, the Robesons. When Fool breaks into their home, he uncovers the truth about what happens beneath their floorboards and who is living under the stairs. It features themes of racism, classism, and sadomasochism.
