Looks like it’s going to be a fascinating year for Knives Out franchise. After the confirmation of a lucrative deal concerning Netflix and Daniel Craig a few weeks back, it’s now confirmed that Dave Bautista is also joining the cast of the second installment of the 2019 Blockbuster.
Just a few weeks back, the film created a lot of buzz around the world when it was reported that Rian Johnson, director of Knives Out, his producing partner Ram Bergman, and Craig are going to make $100 million each for the sequels, thanks to the whopping $469 million deal signed by Netflix with Lionsgate, the original producer of Knives Out. This mouth-watering deal is reportedly giving Johnson “immense creative control,” with Netflix’s sole demand being that Daniel Craig must be the lead in the sequels of Knives Out; and they must wrap most things including production in about $40 million, which was essentially the budget of the first movie.
As it’s already confirmed, Craig will be back for essentially two Knives Out sequels and will reprise the role of Benoit Blanc. However, none of the other cast members, including Chris Evans, Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Shannon, Don Johnson, Toni Collette, Katherine Langford, and Jaeden Martell who played members of the Thrombey family in the original Knives Out, are returning for the sequel. It is still unclear whether Ana de Armas, the female lead of the original one, will be back for the sequels or not.
On the other hand, the former WWE star Dave Bautista who has gained international fame portraying the Drax-The Destroyer in MCU along with other acting venture in Stuber and Spectre, is currently occupied with the release of Zack Snyder’s Zombie action film Army of the Dead and the shooting for Thor: Love & Thunder and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3. Now the joining of Bautista with the cast of Knives Out 2 could lead to an action based storyline which the actor is known for.
Now, there is no official announcement from Netflix or the director for the release of the second installment of Knives Out yet, but it’s speculated that they might aim for a late-2022 release. This film will be the second collaboration between Craig and Bautista as they have already worked together in 007 film Spectre and it will be extremely interesting to see how both the actors approach Knives Out 2.
