This Dussehra is brimming with movie releases from all major southern film industries, especially Kollywood, which was looking at not one or two, but three new releases scheduled to hit screens on 14th October. However, with the recent blockbuster success of Tamil film ‘Doctor’ that is enjoying an exceptionally profitable run with housefull shows even on weekdays, two anticipated Tamil releases have backed out from the Dussehra race and postponed their release dates. Read on to know which ones they are.
The major Tamil releases for Dussehra were to be the Arya–Raashi Khanna starrer ‘Aranmanai 3‘, Atharvaa–Anupama Parameswaran starrer ‘Thalli Pogathey‘ and M. Sasikumar’s ‘Rajavamsam‘, out of which the last two films have gracefully bowed out of the race. Both films have postponed their release to a later date, yet unannounced. This decision comes after the Sivakarthikeyan starrer ‘Doctor’, that has been extremely well received and is the first Tamil film to achieve blockbuster status post the second Covid wave. The film’s massive collections have made it the second Indian blockbuster, just behind the recent Telugu runaway hit, ‘Love Story’.
This decision is being considered a clever move by trade analysts, since ‘Doctor’ is holding all major screens and is expected to have a good first week run and give stiff competition to the horror comedy, ‘Aranmanai 3’, that is grabbing the rest of the theatres. Surprisingly, the much-awaited Hollywood film ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’, also releasing on October 14th, is struggling to get theatres in the state. Therefore, a smart move indeed, by both films to back out from the date and shift its release ahead. Although no official announcement has been made, one is expected soon.
