Conan O’Brien has been a well known and recognised personality over the world. He has been one of the top most talk show hosts in the past 28 years. With his famous talk show ‘Conan’ which has been on air on TBS for the past 10 years, O’Brien has created a distinct personality of his own among the viewers.
The news comes out in the form that ‘Conan’ will finally be ending it’s run on TBS after 10 long years. The show which has aired more than 1400+ episodes will be airing it’s last episodes in June 2021 on TBS. ‘Conan’ used to air at late nights from Monday to Thursday.
Now this has come due to the fact that O’Brien has signed a deal with HBO Max for a new variety show and it will the first time since 28 years that he’ll not be hosting a talk show from the front. He started off with “Late Night With Conan O’Brien” which ran from 1993 to 2009. Then he had a brief tenure with NBC’s “The Tonight’s Show” where he replaced Jay Leno before his abrupt departure from the show in 2010.
WarnerMedia which both handles HBO Max as well as TBS expressed their interest in the newly formed deal.
Casey Bloys who serves as the chief content officer for HBO and HBO Max, stated that O’Brien’s “unique brand of energetic, relatable and at times absurdist comedy” on his nightly show. “We can’t wait to see what he and the rest of Team Coco will dream up for this brand-new variety format each week.”
While the makers of ‘Conan’ also spoke positively of the deal stating the fact that change is necessary and seeing the popularity of streaming platforms it was the best decision.
Conan have his statement on the news. He said –
“In 1993 Johnny Carson gave me the best advice of my career: ‘As soon as possible, get to a streaming platform.’ I’m thrilled that I get to continue doing whatever the hell it is I do on HBO Max, and I look forward to a free subscription”.
While for the fans at TBS, Conan O’Brien is not all out from the channel as his specials
“Conan Without Borders” will still be airing on TBS.
Still at the beginning stages, the variety series on HBO MAX will be a fun show and more details about it will be shared by the makers in the coming months.
