Actor David Harbour has confirmed that the upcoming Season 5 will be the final addition to Netflix’s Stranger Things series. The storyline that commenced back in 2016 with Will Byers’ disappearance in Season 1 to Vecna’s introduction in Season 4 is ‘one complete story’. On the other hand, the streaming service is working with The Duffer Brothers to develop a few spin-offs based on the original series.
This is what Harbour said in his recent statement:

“Netflix is gonna do spin-offs… but the storyline where we started in the lab and Upside Down is one complete story.”

The overall scenario indicates that Netflix may cultivate a Stranger Things universe consisting of the original series as well as the spin-offs. Back in September this year, it was revealed that The Duffer Brothers’ Upside Down Pictures was looking to develop a live-action spin-off project, different from the original series. In addition, the brotherly duo is also working on a Stranger Things animated series. Furthermore, they have plans to adapt the series’ settings and themes in a stage play.
Developing more spin-offs is what any other streaming service would have done if it had a gem of a show like Stranger Things. The series has cultivated a tremendous fan following since 2016. Expanding the sci-fi horror franchise with spin-offs enables the streaming giant and The Duffer Brothers to capitalise on the franchise’s existing prominence. The element of diversified storytelling will certainly be achieved through different themes, tones, genres, characters, and perspectives while maintaining some connection with the original series. In addition, this strategy may also pave the way for innovative storytelling, giving the makers opportunities to experiment with different creative styles or elements.
One of Netflix’s flagship shows, Stranger Things, takes place in the 1980s in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana.
