The much awaited and director Ayan Mukherji’s much loved song ‘Deva Deva’ from ‘Brahmastra’ is out now. The song is all about the time when Shiva (Ranbir Kapoor) unlocks his powers in the film and fills all the fire around him with divine energy.
‘Deva Deva’ has that inspirational and devotional feel where one surrenders to a higher power and lets Him help discover one’s true self and inner strength. The video shows how Shiva (Ranbir Kapoor) is ecstatic upon the discovery of the fire power within him and cannot stop practising around with it.
As he learns how to control and utilise this energy of fire, he is all but grateful for the blessing. Shiva also realises and understands in the song that to achieve his potential of controlling the fire outside he first needs to feel the fire within.
While all seems to go pretty well in the first half, the second half of ‘Deva Deva’ suddenly takes a romantic turn with Isha’s (Alia Bhatt) entry in the song. Circling the pious fire symbolic of the “pheras” in a Hindu wedding and chasing each other in the snowy mountains, Shiva and Isha are like two love birds in a Bollywood drama.
Though there’s nothing wrong about the couple’s adorable chemistry, ‘Deva Deva’ was supposed to be a song about finding the inner power, realising it’s potential and preparing for something bigger while being grateful for the gift received. So dropping a love angle in it for a good second half seemed quite unnecessary.
Unless this was to take the advantage of the fact that how fans, and viewers in general too, love to see the recently married and soon to be parents couple together at every chance available.
Anyways, ‘Deva Deva’ has an overall soothing and magical vibe that fills you with love, light and inspiration. Sung by Arijit Singh and Jonita Gandhi, the song is composed by Pritam with lyrics from Amitabh Bhattacharya.
