There have been reports about Drushyam 2 – the official remake of Malayalam Blockbuster, Drishyam 2 is in advanced talks with Amazon Prime Video for a possible OTT release. Senior Telugu producer, Suresh Babu is one of the partners in the production of the film starring Venkatesh. But then, Suresh Babu still feels that direct OTT releases are going to be a threat to the survival of the theaters.
“Direct OTT releases will badly affect the theaters. These are the times when producers do not have any other option. People are more inclined to watch films at home. But things will change quickly. When the curve bends, we will see the audience coming to theaters at least on weekends especially in big cities. It’s time the producers make films on a controlled budget keeping such an audience in mind. Or else, theaters will become extinct very soon,” Suresh Babu opined in an interview.
The producer who is also into film distribution and exhibition has a straight answer when asked why he is not into the OTT business. “Contrary to popular belief, the OTT players are not making money. Even big players like Amazon and Netflix are burning cash at this moment,” he said.
