Prithviraj’s next cop film, ‘Cold Case’, could very well head to an OTT platform, as reports seem to suggest. The producers of the film are currently in talks with multiple OTT platforms, likely considering their options in this second lockdown. Latest rumors even suggest that the production house seems to have made a deal with Amazon Prime Video already, but there has been no official confirmation yet. Due to the second wave of the coronavirus, theatres in Kerala have been forced to shut down for over a month now, while people in the State have been forced to endure another (slightly less gruelling, depending) lockdown.
This movie has been through a roller coaster of events, in terms of the type of release. ‘Cold Case’ was originally supposed to be a direct-to-OTT releasing film, but as the Kerala State Government lifted the first lockdown and eventually opened the theatres within the state, the production house decided to release the film in theatres, late in April. However production slowed down and then theatres got shut again. With theatres closed indefinitely, we are very assuredly looking at an OTT release now.
However, all of this is a moot point, as the movie hasn’t even finished filming yet, and with the lockdown still in effect, we will have to wait some time for the film to finish shooting and post-production as well, before we even get any reports of a release date. However, even after the lockdown gets removed, if the number of Covid-19 cases doesn’t eventually stabilize, we will definitely not be watching this film in the theatres.
The satellite rights for the movie have already been sold to Asianet network, so this direct-to-OTT release is looking more and more possible with each passing day. We will now have to wait and see what the producers have planned for this unique cop film.
