Finally, after months of speculation, delays and several rounds of re-shoots, the Ajay Devgn produced multi-starrer, ‘Bhuj: The Pride of India’, will premiere on Disney+ Hotstar, during the Independence Day-Weekend. Like many other Indian movies, ‘Bhuj: The Pride of India’ was expected to release worldwide last year, before the world-wide pandemic struck and put a huge wrench in that plan. Now, even after a year, the situation hasn’t gotten much better, so this film is finally going to be released directly via OTT, much to the delight of Ajay Devgn fans everywhere (who have been waiting for this film since its announcement back in 2019). With an estimated production cost of Rs. 60 crores, Disney+ Hotstar will “re-enter the OTT background” with a blockbuster of a film to compete against fellow OTT giants Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
Netflix and Amazon Prime Video have been releasing brilliant direct-to-OTT Indian films like ‘Drishyam 2’, ‘Joji’, ‘Pagglait’, ‘Haseen Dillruba’ among many others, making it hard for other OTT platforms to gain a foothold in this market. With Disney+ Hotstar’s ‘‘Bhuj: The Pride of India’ release now announced, this upcoming war action film will now be the center of attention in the minds of Indian movie lovers, till the movie releases next month. And we have barely even seen a teaser come out from the film’s production side. Well played, Disney+ Hotstar. Well played.
This film will now dominate on various social media platforms and we expect the OTT platform to start releasing weekly tidbits and promotional videos to keep up the curiosity and online discussions. With the film set during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, the film will also appeal to the patriots as well. Since whatever Devgn touches has been turning to Gold, in the past couple of years, we expect this movie to be a hit film as well. Touch wood.
Featuring a stellar cast of Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Dutt, Sharad Kelkar, Sonakshi Sinha, Ammy Virk, Pranitha Subhash and Nora Fatehi, the film follows from the point of view of IAF Squadrun Leader Vijay Karnik, the then in-charge of the Bhuj airport. The Bhuj airport which was a vital Indian military base at the time, was bombed and raided over 30 times in an effort to destroy an important Indian base. IAF Squadrun Leader Vijay Karnik and his team, reconstructed the IAF airbase with the help of 300 women from the local village of Madhapar.
