Laxmii has gotten the biggest movie opening ever on Indian streaming platforms, if Disney Plus Hotstar’s latest social media post is anything to go by. Along the way, it has apparently broken the record set by Dil Bechara, which had garnered a massive number of eyeballs due to it being the last release of late Sushant Singh Rajput.
The Akshay Kumar – Kiara Advani starrer Laxmii had originally been planned as a theatrical release for the auspicious Eid holiday. But the Covid-19 outbreak forced the movie to go straight to OTT. It was bought by Disney Plus Hotstar for an astronomical sum. There was massive hype over the film ever since Akshay Kumar fans discovered that he was starring in Raghava Lawrence’s Hindi remake of the Tamil hit. It also became one of the most keenly awaited films on OTT.
The phenomenal opening Laxmii received could be attributed to the aforementioned facts. Disney Plus Hotstar took to its social media to announce that Laxmii had got the biggest movie opening ever. It thanked viewers for all the love showered on the movie.
Laxmii, however, has received negative reviews from critics and audiences, a fact that can be gleaned from the heavy criticism of the movie on social media. Of course, opening numbers of a film have nothing to do with how it was received by viewers.
