Kangana Ranaut’s production house, Manikarnika Films, has just revealed the first full-fledged teaser for its upcoming film ‘Emergency’. It has also revealed the release date in theatres for the film. ‘Emergency’ will premiere in theatres worldwide on 24th November, 2023. Interestingly, the teaser and release date announcement for ‘Emergency’ come on the eve of the 48th anniversary of the real-life declaration of the Emergency in India. For those who don’t know, emergency in India was declared on 25th June 1975, by the Indira Gandhi-led government of that time.
The ‘Emergency’ teaser doesn’t show much by way of the actors and storyline of the movie. The visuals are still explosive enough to generate interest in the mind of the viewer. We get a glimpse of Anupam Kher in the beginning of the teaser, and Kangana Ranaut as Indira Gandhi at the end of it. The teaser also has a voiceover by Kangana Ranaut, in an uncanny imitation of the talking style of the late Indira Gandhi.
‘Emergency’ is directed by Kangana Ranaut herself, who’s also credited with the story of the film. Ritesh Shah has written the screenplay of the film. Besides Kangana Ranaut and Anupam Kher, the cast of Emergency includes actors Shreyas Talpade, Mahima Chaudhry, Milind Soman, Vishak Nair and Satish Kaushik in crucial roles.
‘Emergency’ is one of the most awaited films for Indian viewers. The film has the potential to whip up passions, polarise audiences, and spark online debates and arguments, just like recent films ‘The Kashmir Files’, and ‘The Kerala Story’ before it. The film will capture the events preceding and following the 1975 emergency, arguably the darkest chapter in India’s post-independence history.
