Another buzzy film has bitten the OTT bullet – which means the film will skip theatres and release directly on OTT. This time it’s Emraan Hashmi’s upcoming film. Before anyone jumps to conclusions, it’s not the Emraan Hashmi – Amitabh Bachchan starrer Chehre we’re talking about. It’s the previously reported supernatural horror thriller film, ‘Ezra’, a remake of the hit Malayalam film of the same name.
Emraan Hashmi has been in the news recently for his much-talked-about face-off against Salman Khan in the spy thriller, Tiger 3. The other film of his that has been hitting headlines time and again is Chehre. That film is rumoured to be in talks for a direct to digital release too. But like a bolt from the blue, it’s been learnt that his Ezra remake has finalised a satisfactory deal and will release directly on OTT.
Amazon Prime Video has grabbed streaming rights for the Ezra remake. Besides Emraan, the film stars Nikita Dutta, Darshana Banik, Manav Kaul, and Vipin Sharma in pivotal roles. The film is directed by Jay Krishnan, who is also the director of the Prithviraj Sukumaran and Priya Anand original Malayalam film. The film is produced by Bhushan and Krishan Kumar of T-Series, and Abhishek and Kumar Mangat Pathak.
The extended lockdown and subsequent theatres shutdown has again driven a spate of films to skip theatres and take the direct to digital release route. Toofan, Sherni and Bhoot Police are the films that have confirmed their OTT release. Akshay Kumar’s Bell Bottom, Vijay Sethupathi’s Kadaisi Vivasayi and Laabam, and Aravind Swamy’s Naragasooran are rumoured to have been picked up by various streaming platforms for a direct to digital release.
