Netflix and Karan Johar have teamed up for yet another lifestyle show and this time it focuses on the wives of Bollywood actors. The minute the trailer hit the internet, it received all kinds of comments, most were not in the favour of the show and one will definitely understand why. One cannot slide away with dialogue like, “Of course, we go shopping in a Rolls Royce. Is there any other mode of transportation?”. Such dialogues cannot and don’t suit India. Yes, we have a percentage of utterly rich people who are blessed enough to travel like that but one should be aware of what they are talking about and where they are talking about. The show features four wives and their apparent “mundane” lives, the wives will be starring in the show are Neelam Kothari, wife of actor Anup Soni, Seema Khan, wife of actor Sohail Khan, Bhavana Pandey, wife of Chunky Pandey and Maheep Kapoor, wife of Sanjay Kapoor.
All these ladies might definitely have their businesses and whatnots but one cannot deny the fact that the reason they have such a business is not because of what they have made of themselves but mostly because of which family do they belong to. They are out of work boring actors who needed a show that exactly summed up their real lives. Living an extravagant life is not everyone’s cup of tea and here they have been flaunting it in a way that can be clearly called, “a show-off”.
Karan Johar did his trailer planning really well though. He made sure to put in the frame an actual power couple Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan and the latest Dharma kid Ananya Pandey in it to attract some people. A certain comment on YouTube says, “Probably the only one who owns a Rolls Royce is Shah Rukh Khan here” and we couldn’t agree more. The show focuses on the lives of how they shop, spend money, their luxurious homes, and everything else that is not at all relatable to the people that it is being shown to. People in India can’t relate to their issues and troubles.
The trailer shows their various “adventures” and one of them that can literally make people roll their eyes hard is the way they are seen flirting with a waiter of a bar and an unknown guy at a lounge. This totally gives the feel of an extravagant Karan Johar movie, which it is but is slightly hidden in the form of a lifestyle show.
All the past Karan Johar projects on Netflix have failed to attract people and it seems he tried to put everything in this to make it work, like his movies. Again, this is another show of his on Netflix which is nothing but screams cringe in all forms. But do you think this will be in the top 10 charts of Netflix India? It sure looks like one. Indian Matchmaking had better comments, jokes and content than this show, but we never know, the population of India is always so obsessed with the lives of stars that this can end up being a hit.
At this point, we cannot be sure of anything but just this, that Netflix most definitely needs to team up with someone else to bring good quality lifestyle shows to the audience.
