Well, what do you know, Fahadh Faasil‘s upcoming film, ‘Malik‘ has finally got an official OTT release date – 15th July 2021. And this historical political Malayalam epic is going to premiere on Amazon Prime Video. When this direct-to-OTT film releases in mid-July, Fahadh Faasil will break multiple Malayalam OTT records, many of which were already held by him.
After the success of ‘C U Soon’ last year, OTT platforms started to keep an eye out for good Malayalam films (and filmmakers) for streaming. After the immense success of Mohanlal’s ‘Drishyam 2’, the landscape for Malayalam OTT releases changed even further. And after Fahadh Faasil released ‘Irul’ and ‘Joji’, he became the “poster-boy” for all things Malayalam OTT. His continued involvement in this virtual platform has become noticed and he has become the go-to actor to star in a direct-to-OTT film (That was not the reason for ‘Malik’ to become a direct-to-OTT release though).
Anyway, onto the records. When ‘Malik’ releases on Amazon Prime Video, he will become the first Malayalam superstar to have been a part of 4 Malayalam movies which were released directly for streaming (The previous record of 3 was also held by him). He will also become the first Malayalam actor to release four films back-to-back on an OTT platform (He could very well be the first Indian actor to do that as well). He will also be the first Malayalam actor to have released three Malayalam movies directly for streaming on Amazon Prime Video (‘C U Soon’, ‘Joji’ and ‘Malik’). Of course, there are many other minor records Fahadh will be setting (or breaking), but these are the major ones so far.
