Feeling Cooped Up? 5 Films On Netflix To Take You On A Foreign Trip Virtually

Since the day the lock-down started in the country in 2020, the majority of the people have been in house arrest for almost one and a half years. The people who are habituated to going out, to take their bike or the car with friends one in a while, have been waiting restlessly to go out on a trip once again. But since the pandemic surge in the country, there was literally nowhere to go and nothing to do for these people except occasionally Netflix and chilling. Now as we know that in these tough times, Netflix has became a major tool of happiness in your lives, we thought to present you with teeny-tiny list of movie which can at least give you a tour of a few foreign countries, at least virtually so that, you can feel a little less isolated.

Here goes the list:

1. Dil Chahta Hai (2001)

Dil Chahta HaiNot the kind of travel movie you imagine, but this film is instrumental in making Goa and Sydney the ultimate travel destination amongst Indians since 2001. A Farhan Akhtar directorial debut with the brilliance of Aamir Khan as Akash, Saif Ali Khan as Sid, Akshay Khanna as Sameer alongwith Preity Zinta, Dimple Kapadia and Sonali Kulkarni, this film is an iconic film in the history of Indian Cinema. We can never forget the moment went Akash, Sid and Sameer sitting on a wall of Chapora Fort in Goa or Aakash and Shalini (Zinta) taking a helicopter to circle over entire city of Sydney, Australia and also when Aakash and Shalini visits the Sydney Opera House. The way those Iconic sequences were shot will literally feel that we are actually in those locations. These scenes were extremely surreal and mesmerizing. So, if you are having blues and want to go on a quick trip, just tune in to Netflix and hit the play button for Dil Chahta Hai.

2. Tamasha (2015)

TamashaAn Imtiaz Ali masterpiece, Tamasha is a film that will make you laugh and cry at the same time. Also, I bet no one can forget the film’s opening sequence in Corsica, France where Ved aka Ranbir Kapoor and Tara aka Deepika Padukone met for the first time. And of course the song “Matargashti” which was shot on a live location in Corsica. Oh, those vibrant colours, those beautiful landscapes and those friendly French people, it feels like the beauty of France is just pulling us towards it. One of the most fascinatingly shot movies in recent times, this film is surely going to give you that nomadic vibe on Netflix.

3. Dil Dhadakne Do (2015)

Dil Dhadakne DoA Zoya Akhtar Film which has ‘travel vibes’ all over it. A fascinating cast in a sophisticated cruise ship going for a vacation in Istanbul, Turkey, this is a trip to die for. Anil Kapoor, Shefali Shaw, Ranveer Singh,Anushka Sharma, Priyanka Chopra and Farhan Akhtar – a brilliant cast will take you to the journey of a lifetime. Those refreshing Turkish Hummam scenes, those larger-than-life Hagia Sophia sequences or simply the scenes on the cruise ship, this film is a virtual tour package for travel enthusiasts. This is a trip you want to go on over and over again.

4. Queen (2013)

QueenA Vikas Bahl film with Kangana Ranaut and Rajkumar Rao, this film will take you on an ill-fated honeymoon to Paris and Amsterdam. Yes, the honeymoon may be ill-fated but the journey is definitely not. Those Iconic views in Paris, those mesmerizing Dutch Sprinter train journeys from Paris to Amsterdam and finally those charming people of Amsterdam, this film could easily be an unconventional travel diary for everyone around the country. One of the best films in Kangana Ranaut’s career, this should definitely be in your Netflix watchlist.

5. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011)

Zindagi Na Milegi DobaraI guess it is safe to say that if there is a film associated with the Akhtar siblings, that is bound to be a travel digest. Yet another Zoya Akhtar directorial, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is arguably the best travel movie, to be specific road-movie ever made in India. A film that will take you to every noon and cranny of France, it will take you to underwater diving in Costa Brava, it will take you to Skydiving in Seville and finally it will end with racing with bulls in Pamplona. We will also be able to witness the Spanish ‘Holi’ aka La Tomatina Festival in Buñol, courtesy Laila aka Katrina Kaif. This Hrithik RoshanAbhay Deol-Farhan Akhtar film should definitely stay at the top of this list when you feel like traveling while cooped up in your house because ”Hume Afsos Karna Nahi Aata (We Hate Regrets)”.
