Roy Kapoor Films are going to bring the internationally acclaimed Gujarati film ‘Last Film Show’ to Indian Cinemas. It premiered at Tribeca and now It will Be available to Indian audiences. It is directed by Pan Nalin and originally called ‘Chello Show’. Last Film Show is a semi autobiographical journey venturing back to the roots of the artist’s love for cinema.
Nalin is well known for his works like ‘Samsara’, ‘Valley Of Flowers‘ and ‘Angry Indian Godesses’ and he has got international acclaim with these films to such an extent that he was invited to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences branch in its Director’s Branch.
The film tells the story of a nine year old boy Samay who gets mesmerized by Cinema when he experiences the art form for the first time and he makes a pact with the projectionist to let him eat from his lunchbox in exchange of watching movies in the theatre for free. This turns out to be an unlikely friendship.
These collaborations are great for the development of the art of cinema in India. At a time when the mainstream Indian film industry is failing so miserably with few exceptions, the regional films are proving themselves in box office records as well as international film festivals. Gujarati film ‘Hellaro’ gained quite a fame in 2019 and it was accepted by many as the best film made that year, though it was not sent for the Academy Awards nominations. Now with ‘Chello Show’ the Gujarati movie industry is on its way to become the face of Indian art films alongside the Malayalam film industry. Its theatrical release across India will attract more audiences to these regional art films and increase their interest in them.
‘Last Film Show’ is set to release in theatres on 14th October 2022.
