“You’re the bane of my existence, and object of all my desires,” – remember this line, spoken by the extremely desirable, lord Viscount. The dialogue that indeed burns through every ladies hearts, bewitching them quintessentially. Nobody really imagined that any dialogue could transcend “You’ve bewitched me, body and soul,” the iconic dialogue from “Pride and Prejudice,” but well, Lord Viscount’s line seems to have made us all go weak on the knees. And well, who’s this ravishingly handsome English nobleman? It’s Jonathan Bailey, the 33 year old actor who gets a year older today. So Happy Birthday Jonathan, our very own gentleman, Lord Anthony Bridgerton!
When we saw Simon, the Duke of Hastings from “Bridgerton” season 1, we thought he was all. But it was untill we came across Lord Anthony Bridgerton, the philandering and de facto head of the family, sort of an impediment in season 1. Jonathan Bailey’s character was less of a hero in that season, attempting to control everybody’s marital decisions while ignoring his own unbridled romantic affair with Siena. At times we also saw him throwing a pack of punches at the Duke of Hastings, but it was in season 2 when we see Anthony coming out of his shell, finally falling in true love with Kate Sharma.
Jonathan Bailey was able to succeed as the extremely passionate and vulnerable guy, eventually giving up his stubbornness and bravado and unmasking his fears in front of his lover Kate. The way he inhales and gasps slightly before he utters those lines “and the object of all my desires,” was decadently hot. Bridgerton fans were indeed surprised as how this man who said “I’m not good at poetry,” can say “there is not a place on Earth that can free me from this torment.”
From the raging and stomping anst to the transition into the alluringly passionate and emotionally available guy, all credits to Jonathan Bailey for pulling out this role so effortlessly. Did you yet watch the GIF of Bailey coming out of water and lamented wistfully that nobody’s ever called you the bane of their existence? Haha well, unlucky you! Or maybe unlucky us! 🙁
