The Spectator is one of the foremost names in the field of journalism. It stood with rationality which great essayists of the 1700s started.
But today, it is run by ignorant little fellas who know a little about facts, least about history, and are lost in their bubble of the present.
One such writer is Robert Tombs in the same Spectator paper who is ignorant at best and colonial supremacist at worst.
He wrote an article which was posted saying “The British have long been a fair game as film villains. But Netflix’s blockbuster RRR takes things too far”.
The title said, “What Netflix’s RRR gets wrong about the British Raj?”

He lamented over the supposedly utopian governance under the British Raj whose only mild failure was the Amritsar massacre. But he even tried to justify it through an example.
Regardless, the ill-schooled crackbrained fella needs no further attention as we Indians have to know our true history.
But the bigger question is, has Netflix overtook the identity of RRR from SS Rajamouli?
We realize that Robert Tombs and his media house are wet behind the ears but this issue is bigger than that and we have seen many examples of that.
Many people are tweeting “Netflix’s RRR” as if RRR is a Netflix original.

First of all, RRR is originally a Telugu film directed by SS Rajamouli. It isn’t a Bollywood film and Netflix just grabbed the streaming rights of “Hindi Audio”.
Never has Netflix promoted an original Indian film/series the way they did RRR. And outside India, Netflix never promotes a film whose ownership doesn’t rest with them.
So it is safe for ignorant people to assume that RRR is a Netflix original. But this is not an ideal situation.
People need to realize that the magic on screen was spelled by Rajamouli and the producers, the audience needs to be aware the world of this fact.
