In an interesting inclusion for HBO Max’s Arkham Asylum spin-off series, which is set in ‘The Batman’ universe, the makers have reportedly roped in Antonio Campos as the show’s new writer. Besides, he will also act as the show’s director, showrunner, and executive producer, in case his version is finally greenlit. The update has come out soon after it was announced that ‘The Suicide Squad’ helmer James Gunn was tapped to lead DC Studios as co-CEO alongside producer Peter Safran.
HBO Max’s Arkham Asylum spin-off series was earlier described as DC’s first ever horror-themed series which will be based on the Arkham State Hospital, a psychiatric facility / prison which houses criminally insane patients in Gotham City and exists in the Batman universe. The series will potentially focus on the origins of various characters related to Arkham Asylum. Matt Reeves, director of the 2022 film ‘The Batman’, had previously described the Arkham Asylum series as a haunted house project. He will also act as the executive producer of the show.
This is not the first time Antonio Campos has collaborated with the HBO Max streaming service. Because earlier this year, the filmmaker had helmed the true crime miniseries ‘The Staircase’ starring Colin Firth and Tony Collette in the lead roles. Moreover, he has also directed episodes of the police procedural series ‘The Sinner’ and ‘The Punisher’ series for Marvel. In 2020, he directed Tom Holland in the psychological crime thriller movie ‘The Devil All the Time’.
Besides the Arkham Asylum series, another ‘The Batman’ spin-off series focusing on Penguin’s character is in the works with Colin Farrell reprising his role which he essayed in Matt Reeves’ critically acclaimed film. Stay tuned to Binged for the latest updates on HBO Max’s Arkham Asylum series.
