James Gunn Teases A New Suicide Squad Spin-off Series

James Gunn Teases A New Suicide Squad Spin-off Series

HBO Max has delivered a total of five episodes of James Gunn’s Peacemaker series so far. The finale will stream this coming February 17. However, the acclaimed superhero helmer has spiced things up with his latest announcement regarding a brand new The Suicide Squad spin-off instalment. Also, he has not ignored the possibility of a sophomore Peacemaker series.

Various reports have confirmed that Gunn is in talks with the executives of HBO Max to drop another DC series. And yes, the upcoming series will be a part of the DCEU. He has also guaranteed that it will be different from Peacemaker in terms of direction and humour.

“I can’t say anything,” Gunn revealed. “It is connected to this universe, and I don’t think it will be the same genre as Peacemaker; it won’t be as much a comedy as Peacemaker, but it will be in the same universe.”

So, the multi-dollar question is: Which character from The Suicide Squad will get his/her DCEU series? We cannot deny that there are loads of possibilities. We should have a look at the characters who survived the crazy events of The Suicide Squad. The list of the survivors includes Bloodsport, Harley Quinn, King Shark, Ratcatcher II, and surprisingly Weasel. Margot Robbie has already appeared in Birds of Prey alongside Mary Elizabeth Winstead (The Huntress), Jurnee Smollet-Bell (Black Canary), and Rosie Perez (Renee Montoya). Plus, fans have watched too much of her character on the big screen. We don’t think Gunn will even think about a Harley Quinn solo project.

However, Idris Elba’s Bloodsport or Cleo Cazo’s Ratcatcher II has a good chance of getting a solo DCEU series. The performances of Elba and Cazo impressed the viewers in The Suicide Squad. Additionally, Gunn explored their past lives to some extent in the movie. That’s why the director has a golden opportunity to do something spectacular with one of these notable residents of the Belle Reeve penitentiary. But Bloodsport has more chances of getting his solo project. It’s almost impossible to neglect a talent like Elba.

A solo project about King Shark or Weasel? We believe it is best if we don’t even think about it. Although, it sounds fun!

Speaking of spin-offs, it seems like James Gunn is interested in a Peacemaker spin-off show too. And guess who has a great chance of getting his solo series from the Peacemaker universe? John Cena might have grabbed the leading role, but it is none other than Freddie Stroma who has stolen the hearts of DC fans as Vigilante.

A fan on Twitter asked Gunn about a possible Vigilante series in future. The director replied with the mermaid emoji. We don’t know if he was just joking or teasing about a new DC series. But it’s clear that Vigilante will not leave us anytime soon.
