Here’s Why Sony Liv’s Scam 1992 Will Taste Success!

Here’s Why Sony Liv’s Scam 1992 Will Taste Success!

Sony Liv, since their complete renovation of themselves have been churning out various content which are being loved equally by the audience. Firstly they came up with Undekhi which was a crime drama series, met with praise from all over the country, next they came up with Avrodh : The Siege Within which was based on the real life events of the 2016 URI attacks, and naturally this was destined to become a huge hit. Then, the show came which was genuinely been missing from Indian market – JL50. Well not the brightest attempts in the genre of time travel but still something decent done is better than doing nothing and simply producing crap.

Now Sony Liv is coming with a brand new crime drama show based on the real life events of Harshad Mehta. As you know that the show is titled Scam 1992 and has become the talking point of the town. The show will focus on the highly publicised financial frauds which were committed by Harshad Mehta. The fraud committed was of around ₹5000 crores and you can imagine the impact of this amount in early 90s and especially in India.

Now, the web series which is being directed by Hansal Mehta who has previously helmed several acclaimed films like Shahid, Aligarh, is looking to showcase how the events took place and how a common man from Gujarat became the “Bachchan of BSE”. Scam 1992 will tell how Harshad Mehta dreamed of being in history and aspired to do something big eventually crumpled under his own web of fraud.

Let’s talk about why the show will become a successful venture for Sony Liv. First of all it is based on a real life event, something which we Indians connect easily. For example the Uri attacks and the surgical strike by the Indian government. The incident created such an impact on Indian audience that the movie starring Vicky kaushal titled Uri The Surgical Strike became a monstrous hit and earned over ₹240 crore And seeing the the current situation of Indian economic market with frauds committed by personalities like Vijay Mallya, Nirav modi etc. People have been trying be aware of the scams which happened in India.

So why not the docu-series by Netflix titled Bad Boy Billionaires became a hit? Well mainly because it was a documentary. Yes you heard that correctly, we Indians generally like emotions and drama in whatever content we watch and thus watching a documentary might please a certain audience but majority of audience like that “masala” factor in stuff. And hence Sony Liv’s Scam 1992 gives us the perfect opportunity to witness the brilliancy of Harshad Mehta on one side and the flaws of Indian financial system on the other which led Mehta to pull off a scam worth of thousands of crores. The dramatised versions of other events released in recent past generally have done well with the Indian audience.

The show definitely will contain a message like all the other works of Hansal Mehta as the director himself has said the same. It also will be a good opportunity for the young audience to witness what incidents have happened in the past of the country.

The Webseries ‘Scam 1992 : The Harshad Mehta Story’ is based on ‘The Scam: Who Won, Who Lost, Who Got Away’ by Debashis Basu and Sucheta Dalal.

The show stars :-
Pratik Gandhi as Harshad Mehta, Shreya Dhanwanthary. Satish Kaushik, Sharib Hashmi, Anant Mahadevan, Nikhil Dwivedi, KK Raina, Lalit Parimoo and others.

Scam 1992 released on October 9th 2020 only on Sony Liv.
