Here’s Why You Should Watch ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ Despite Backlash

Here’s Why You Should Watch ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ Despite Backlash

Ever since Yash Raj Films (YRF) and Akshay Kumar revealed the trailer for the upcoming historical film ‘Samrat Prithviraj’, it has been the talking point amongst cinema enthusiasts. Some viewers praised many aspects of the film’s trailer, while some others criticized the same on grounds of Akshay Kumar’s casting in and as the fearless king Prithviraj Chauhan. All these things can be judged only after the film releases tomorrow in theatres in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu languages.

‘Samrat Prithviraj’ is reportedly based on the Braj Bhasha epic poem ‘Prithviraj Raso’, a biopic of the legendary warrior king Prithviraj Chauhan. And the film will ostensibly portray the king’s early life, military achievements, marriage to the beautiful princess Sanyogita and his fierce battle with Muhammad of Ghor. Besides Akshay Kumar, the film features Miss World 2017 Manushi Chhillar as Sanyogita, Sonu Sood as Chand Bardai, Sanjay Dutt as Kaka Kanha, Ashutosh Rana as Jayachandra, and Manav Vij as the ruthless antagonist Muhammad Ghori.

We have a feeling that the film is going to be much better than its trailer. And there’s not one but three reasons for the same. So, for this article, we have stated three logical reasons regarding why movie goers should look forward to watching Akshay Kumar’s ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ in theatres.

The Film’s Writer-Director

What makes ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ a special project is the involvement of eminent filmmaker Chandraprakash Dwivedi as its writer and director. A qualified medical professional, he is well known for writing, directing, and acting in and as the immensely acclaimed fictionalized historical drama ‘Chanakya’. The epic television series comprising 47 episodes originally aired on DD National between 1991 to 1992.

Moreover, Chandraprakash Dwivedi is also known for helming the National Award-winning, period drama film ‘Pinjar’ starring Urmila Matondkar, Manoj Bajpayee, Priyanshu Chatterji, and Sanjay Suri. Furthermore, Chandraprakash Dwivedi is also the creative producer for Akshay Kumar’s upcoming action-adventure movie ‘Ram Setu’.

Extensive Research

For making ‘Chanakya’, Chandraprakash Dwivedi had spent more than nine years in researching Chanakya and had read more than 180 books on the subject matter including the legendary ancient Indian Sanskrit text ‘Arthashastra’.

Displaying the same determination, the dedicated filmmaker had reportedly worked on the script of ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ from 2004 until 2019. To lend the much-needed authenticity to the historical film, the makers and the director had converted an entire floor of Yash Raj Films into a research wing, which was functional even until the final day of filming.

Impeccable research for a historical film is of paramount importance and the makers were fully aware of the fact. We are hopeful that the well-researched film would be a fitting tribute to the mighty warrior and would also act as a reference point about Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan. And 18 years of hard work put in by the writer-director Chandraprakash Dwivedi and the whole team would finally pay off.

YRF’s First Historical Film

‘Samrat Prithviraj’ will be YRF’s first ever historical film and one of the biggest period films produced by Bollywood. After years of wait, Chandraprakash Dwivedi had found the right cinematic partner in YRF. The reputed production house is behind some blockbuster films such as ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’, ‘Dhoom’ series, ‘Veer Zaara’, ‘Chek De! India’, ‘Ek Tha Tiger’, and ‘War’, to name a few.

For an ambitious project like ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ to be executed, we are glad that it has been backed by YRF which means that its production values are certainly going to be top-notch.

Besides a dependable actor like Akshay Kumar playing such a legendary character, and the film being produced by the cinematic genius Aditya Chopra, the music has been given by the magical trio of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. It’s a fine combination and apparently a perfect recipe for the film’s critical and commercial success.

Interestingly, many years back, Chandraprakash Dwivedi’s first choice for the titular role was Sunny Deol and Aishwarya Rai as the female lead Sanyogita. However, things could not work out then and then in 2018, YRF came into picture and revived the project.

Now, let’s see whether all the perseverance, patience, and extreme willingness to execute Chandraprakash Dwivedi’s monumental venture ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ starring Akshay Kumar and backed by YRF will yield dividends at the box office. We hope the aforementioned points will work in favour of ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ and the film will be a visually opulent and enriching experience for its viewers.
