Indian Idol is one of the super hit and most popular singing reality shows all over the country. Every aspiring singer dreams about taking part in the singing show. Telugu singers like Karunya, Hema Chandra, Sreerama Chandra, PVNS Rohith, Revanth, Sireesha Bhagavathula, Shanmukha Priya, and many more Telugu singers too took part in the show. Sreerama Chandra and Revanth emerged as winners of the Indian Idol as well.
Now, to fulfill the dream of all the aspiring Telugu singers, the Aha streaming platform tied up with the original Indian Idol organizers to roll out the Telugu version of the show. Titled Indian Idol Telugu, the show is launched on Saturday.
Music director Thaman, Singer Karthik, and actress-cum singer Nithya Menen are the judges of the show while Sreerama Chandra is the TV show’s host.
1000s of contestants came forward to be a part of the show but only a few are selected. Episode one went on air yesterday and the following are the highlights of the episode.
Episode 1
Participant 1 – Archaka Maanya Chandran from Tirupati
Maanya Chandran’s father is a priest at Lord Venkateswara Swamy’s temple. From childhood, Maanya is inclined into music. She appeared on the show in traditional attire but crooned the popular item number ‘Oo Antava Oo Oo Antava’ from Pushpa: The Rise. She wanted to show the versatility in her voice and hence decided to sing an item number. Thaman also asked her to sing another song. Maanya then crooned Paluke Bangaramayena. She sang both the songs well and received the admit card.
Participant 2 – Kurni Sudeep
Sudeep crooned ‘Aasha Paasham’ from C/O Kancharapalem. However, his singing style replicated the style of the original singer Anurag Kulkarni. Thaman pointed out the same and asked Sudeep to sing something else. Sudeep crooned Muvvala Navvakala from Pournami and impressed the judges. He also received the admit card.
Participant 3 – Vaishnavi Kovvuri
Vaishnavi is a 16-year-old aspiring singer with a great voice. She sang ‘Yadike’ from the film Kadali. Her voice mesmerized all the judges that they went on to the stage and gave her a Golden Mike. Thaman also promised Vaishnavi that he will make sure to recommend her voice to AR Rahman one day!
Participant 4 – Sakali Umesh
Umesh does not look like a singer yet he appeared on the stage only to praise and woo Nithya Menen. When he was asked to sing, his singing is not up to the mark. There is no rhythm and he seems to have turned up just to provide some entertainment on the stage. He was not selected.
Participant 5 – Siva Kumar
Siva Kumar is one of those hard-working persons aiming to become a singer one day. Siva runs a street-food Dosa business and is trying to make his mark with singing. Siva crooned ‘Tharaliradha Thane Vasantham’ from the film ‘Rudraveena’ and it impressed everyone. Siva too received the admit card.

Binged’s take
Indian Idol Telugu began amidst a lot of expectations. Unlike the other singing reality shows, this one has a separate format and procedure that we do not regularly see in the Telugu Television space or the Telugu OTT space. However, the first episode proceedings are not impactful. The three judges are also not up to the mark in bringing the entertainment aspect to the singing reality show.
However, since it is the first episode, let us see what’s in store for us, in the coming days.
