Yesterday we took a look at the five directors behind Amazon Prime Video’s Latest Tamil Anthology ‘Putham Pudhu Kaalai’. Today let us take a look at the some of the cast behind the star-studded, Reshma Ghatala written feature flick:
Jayaram
One of the four veteran actors in this cast who has at least three decades of experience under their belt, Jayaram has been a prominent actor who has played many varied versions of the comedic lead-actor. His prowess to bring levity to any role, has not been replicated since, and we don’t think it is possible for anyone else, anytime soon either. He started out as a mimicry artist in the famous professional mimicry troupe, Kalabhavan and reached prominence in his cult debut feature ‘Aparan’.
Urvashi
This is another actor with a three decade acting career under her belt, who similar to Jayaram, has the ability to turn any role of hers into a comedic one and has been a regular mainstay as the lead actress during the 80s and 90s in the South Indian Film Industry. She has often been cast opposite “serious” character actors, and her ability to demand the best from them through her acting has been a delight to watch. She started out as a child actor in the 1977 film ‘Vidarunna Mottukal’ along with her sister Kalpana. But comedy roles aren’t her only bread-and-butter, she can give brilliant, dramatic and nuanced performances as well and it can be noted in her various films.
Shruti Haasan
The daughter of two acting legends Kamal Haasan and Sarika Thakur, she has been performing as an actor since she was a child. She acted in a small role in her father’s directorial (and starring) hit film ‘Hey Ram’ and made her starring role debut in the Bollywood flop ‘Luck’. She has however found recognition for her roles in her Tamil and Telugu films and has gone on to do multiple films in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi languages.
Suhasini Maniratnam
The third actor currently in her fourth decade of acting, she is set to direct one of the short films ‘Coffee Anyone?’ which is part of the larger anthology film ‘Putham Pudhu Kaalai’. She started her acting career in the 1983 film ‘Benkiyalli Aralida Hoovu’ in which she gained prominence. This actor has done notable films in multiple South-Indian films varying from Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.
Andrea Jeremiah
Andreah besides being an actor, is a musician and singer as well. She prominently works in Malayalam and Tamil films, although she has appeared in a few Telugu roles as well. She debuted in the 2005 film ‘Kanda Naal Muthal’ where she played a small role in the feature. She gained prominence in her second film ‘Pachaikili Muthucharam’ for which she got nominated for an Award for Debut Actress.
M.S. Bhaskar
The fourth and final person to make the list of the “30+ years of acting club” for this feature is M.S. Bhaskar. This actor started out in a small role by acting in the 1987 film ‘Thirumathi Oru Vegumath’. He continued to receive minor/small roles in his career throughout the remainder of the 80s and the 90s. After his breakthrough role in ‘Engal Anna’, he has been widely recognized as a supporting and comedy actor in Tamil cinema.
Bobby Simha
Bobby mainly works in Tamil films but has also appeared in Malayalam and Telugu language films. After appearing in small roles in ‘Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Yeppadi’ and ‘Pizza’ in 2012, he portrayed two versions of an antagonist in his next two films which made him noteworthy for his range as an actor. He then got rave reviews for his portrayal of a Madurai gangster, Sethu in the 2014 hit film ‘Jigarthanda’.
‘Putham Pudhu Kaalai ’ is set to release on Amazon Prime Video on October 16th 2020.
