I’m sure that your ears must be fed up of listening to the fact that OTT platforms have given a chance to underrated and homegrown actors to show their talents but what you should also note is that they have also given rise to a lot of homegrown stories with an indie vibe to it.
There was a time a few years ago, when we always used to curse our fate or the ability of mainstream Bollywood to give us a story that connected to us. Every once in a while, when such a movie did release, it wasn’t a big success at the box office, which made all the big production houses wary of taking the risk.
The entry of OTT platforms has satiated this thirst and given us some genuine gems in the last few years where the local audience felt much more connected to the story and understood the backdrop and setting of the story. Gems like Asur, Sacred games and Mirzapur (to name a few) have given us some exemplary performances but the fact that it is more relatable to an Indian audience whether it is the dialect or the background of the characters is what provides so much excitement within the viewers.
There have also been several under the radar projects such as ‘cargo’ and ‘Bulbul’ which are relatable in terms of an Indian audience due to the landscape in which the entire story is created. No longer do people crave solely for those item number or bare body scenes and those outdated remakes but the time has come for a revolution in the stories that are brought to life on screen and OTT platforms are certainly leading the way.
