It’s Jai Bhim Vs Dune in IMDb Global List (2021) & Here’s The Winner

By Binged Bureau - Nov 19, 2021 @ 07:11 pm

The year 2021, so far, has seen some fine Indian films releasing mostly on OTT platforms and some in theatres as well. The list includes ‘Sarpatta Parambarai’, ‘Drishyam 2’, ‘Sardar Udham’, and ‘Jai Bhim’, to name a few. Likewise, Hollywood too had its share of well-received movies such as ‘The Suicide Squad’, ‘The Last Duel’, ‘No Time to Die’, and ‘Dune’, etc.

However, out of the aforementioned Indian and foreign films from across the globe, merely two films from the year 2021 have been included in IMDb’s top-rated movies international list. One is the Suriya starrer legal drama ‘Jai Bhim’ and the other movie is Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Dune’. No other film from 2021 from any country has made it to the coveted list.

And out of ‘Jai Bhim’ and ‘Dune’, it is ‘Jai Bhim’ which has scored a higher IMDb rating/ranking than the Hollywood epic science fiction movie. On the IMDb top 250 movies list, ‘Jai Bhim’ is currently on 117th rank with an IMDb rating of 8.2. On the other hand, ‘Dune’ is currently on 152nd rank with an IMDb rating of 8.1.

About the films:

‘Jai Bhim’ is a hard-hitting courtroom investigative drama that starts off with the story of a man from a primitive tribal community who is accused of stealing from an affluent house. Thereafter, he is taken into police custody and eventually goes missing. The man’s pregnant wife takes the help of an upright High Court advocate Chandru (Suriya) to find her missing husband. How the lawyer fights for the justice of the tribal couple, forms the rest of the film’s plot.

While the sci-fi film ‘Dune’ has been helmed by Denis Villeneuve, who is well known for directing critically acclaimed science fiction movies namely ‘Arrival’ and ‘Blade Runner 2049’. Set in a distant future, the film follows the young protagonist (played by Timothée Chalamet) and his journey to the dangerous desert planet called Arrakis aka Dune, which is known to possess the most precious substance called melange. The film is the first installment of the planned two-part novel adaptation.
