An interesting news in coming regarding the next outing of the celebrated director Ridley Scott in the form of a casting, Reportedly Joaquin Phoenix has been roped in by the director to play the role of Napoleon Bonaparte, the French commander during the historical French Revolution, in the movie which is titled ‘Kitbag’. The film’s title comes from the saying “There is a general’s staff hidden in every soldier’s kitbag”.
This marks the reunion of Phoenix and Scott after their epic Gladiator which released in 2000. The movie is backed by 20th Century Studios where Scott Free( Production Company of Ridley Scott) has the deal. Kevin Walsh too will be seen producing the film.
For Kitbag, Scott is working with David Scarpa who earlier wrote the script for ‘All the Money in the World’ directed by Scott himself.
The movie will be telling the original story of the personal life of Napoleon, his orgin journey from being a commando to becoming the emperor of France. It will be focusing on how ruthless and cunning minded was Napoleon by showing several stages of his brilliance during war times, his ambition as well how great a military leader he was. Kitbag will also show his relationship or should we say his violent relationship with his wife and his true love Josephine.
The announcement for Kitbag came as Ridley Scott recently wrapped up the shooting for his upcoming historical perido drama film ‘The Last Duel’. The movie starrs Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Adam Driver, Jodie Comer and others. The Last Duel is based on the book by Eric Jager and follows The Knight ( Damon ) and his squire ( Adam Driver ) who are forced to duel in order to settle a claim of sexual assault made by the knight’s wife, played by Comer. The film is set in 1386 and is also backed by 20th Century Studios.
Ridley Scott already has one more movie to direct before he can helm the Napoleon. His next is going to be Gucci which is set to begin next year in Italy. The movie stars Lady Gaga, Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Adam Driver and Jared Leto.
