Dexter Morgan’s (played by Michael C. Hall) most formidable adversary ‘Trinity Killer’ is set to make a comeback of sorts in the forthcoming ninth season of the acclaimed show ‘Dexter’ (via Deadline). The character of the dreaded serial killer that appeared in the show’s fourth season was essayed by eminent actor John Lithgow.
Incidentally, his chilling portrayal in ‘Dexter’ had won John Lithgow a Primetime Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award in the year 2010. Prior to that, Lithgow had won Emmy Awards for his roles in ‘The Crown’, ‘3rd Rock from the Sun’, and ‘Amazing Stories’. Besides, the virtuoso performer has also been nominated twice for the Academy Awards.
The Trinity Killer’s character, also known as Arthur Mitchell, is reportedly said to make only a short appearance in the show’s much-anticipated revival season. The fourth season by showrunner Clyde Philips in which the character last appeared is generally regarded as Dexter’s best season yet.
(Spoilers Ahead) Precisely how John Lithgow will reprise his role as the Trinity Killer is not yet known. It’s noteworthy that in Dexter’s penultimate scene in the fourth season finale, the spine-chilling antagonist was eventually captured and disposed of by Dexter Morgan. Although it was disclosed later that the killer’s last victim was Dexter’s own spouse Rita Morgan.
So there seem to be two possible ways for the Trinity Killer character to return. One way is that the character can appear in a flashback or a series of flashbacks.
Another way is that the character might make a comeback in the form of Dexter’s hallucinatory visions. It can be in a somewhat similar way through which Dexter’s father Harry Morgan constantly appeared in the earlier seasons as a figment of Dexter’s imagination and as his conscience. (Spoilers End)
The ninth season of ‘Dexter’ will reportedly comprise ten episodes and is expected to release sometime during late 2021.
