Last night, Tovino Thomas dropped a Tweet announcing that his upcoming feature film, Naaradan, got its censor certificate, but the film cannot make its January theatrical premiere date. The multi starring political thriller was supposed to release at the end of this month, on January 27th 2022, however, the rise in Covid-19 and Omicron cases around the state has forced the film’s producers to postpone the release date. Check out the tweet below:

This is the second major Malayalam feature that has had its release date postponed, the first one being the Dulquer Salmaan cop thriller, Salute. And this is not the first major Indian film to have its theatrical release postponed. RRR and Jersey, both highly anticipated pan-Indian films, have had their premiere dates postponed indefinitely due to the aforementioned rise in Covid-19 cases and Omicron cases. This rise in numbers is not only happening within Kerala but all around the country as well.
Tovino Thomas has brought some brilliant characters to theatres – his latest and most famous one being Jaison AKA Minnal Murali. Last year, during Christmas eve, Tovino Thomas became the first Malayalam actor to portray a superhero in a Malayalam film – in the Netflix premiered Minnal Murali. With the hype around the actor being at an all-time high (thanks to this film), his latest film Naaradan has been buzzing for a few weeks now. Now, we will have to wait for the Covid-19 and Omicron cases to reduce. However, if 2020 and 2021 are an indication, we will likely see a lot more cancellations real soon.
