The eagerly anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed web series ‘Kota Factory’ is all set to start streaming on Netflix from tomorrow. Despite the fact that there are just few hours left for its arrival, the buzz around the second season of ‘Kota Factory’ is surprisingly not what it deserves.
The opening season of ‘Kota Factory’ concurrently streamed on TVFPlay and Youtube platforms (and recently on Netflix) while OTT giant Netflix became home for the second season of the series. The show boasts of a highly impressive IMDb rating of 9.2/10 and usually crops up in the best Indian series listicles. Lack of aggressive marketing by Netflix for such a brilliantly executed project probably does not do justice to the show’s quality and its immense fan following by the target audience.
Regarding the show’s promotion by Netflix just before its release, besides the customary teaser and trailer, just a few character videos were released by the streaming platform. If we compare the current buzz around ‘Kota Factory Season 2’ with the buzz around a show like ‘Aspirants’ at the time of its release, one can perceive the apparent difference.
‘Kota Factory’ has amongst its cast members the presence of the popular OTT star Jitendra Kumar (Jeetu Bhaiya). His popularity could have been capitalized in a bigger way to market the show for a larger audience and to create more awareness. Although, earlier today, a teaser titled ‘Jeetu Bhaiya ke Fundey’ was released by Netflix.
It’s not that people are not searching for or are curious about ‘Kota Factory 2’. Because, if you check the keyword ‘Kota Factory 2’ or ‘Kota Factory’ on google trends for the past week and month, you will observe that the buzz around the show is massive.
Audiences are eager to know more about it, but they do not seem to have sufficient source material to assuage their curiosity. We just wish that if Netflix had promoted the show as aggressively as it did in, say, ‘Sacred Games’, it could have done wonders for the buzz and hype that a show like ‘Kota Factory 2’ deserves.
