On the heels of announcing Ramyug’s teaser with Amitabh Bachchan reciting the Hanuman Chalisa in his trademark deep baritone voice, the over-the-top streaming platform MX Player recently took to Twitter to reveal the official teaser for its upcoming web series ‘Ramyug’.
The visually opulent teaser starts off with a background voice narrating the words “A dutiful king. A God amongst men. Ravana a foe, an enemy like no other. This is the story of the great era – Ramyug.” The 24 seconds long teaser video further revealed that the web series’ trailer will be out on April 29, 2021. However, there is still no word regarding the web series’ release date.
‘Ramyug’ is helmed by the celebrated 1990s film critic (Chalo Cinema) turned filmmaker Kunal Kohli. Kunal Kohli is well known for making some fine films such as ‘Hum Tum’ (starring Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerji) and ‘Fanaa’ (Starring Aamir Khan and Kajol).
Coming back to the teaser, which contains some stunning imagery including an aerial view of the spectacular kingdom, is somewhat reminiscent of S.S.Rajamouli’s epic blockbuster ‘Baahubali’. The teaser moves forward to show us some beautiful VFX-laden snippets from the web series, which makes the viewer yearning for a few more seconds of the teaser.
Since ‘Ramyug’ is based on one of the two major Sanskrit epics of Indian history – the Ramayana, we are eager to see Kunal Kohli’s version and treatment of one of the largest ancient epics in world literature consisting of nearly 24000 verses. Translating the epic into a film or a mini-series is no mean feat. We sincerely hope that the ambitious web series effectively adapts and does justice to the epic.
Besides Kunal Kohli, filmmaker Om Raut is also making a highly anticipated film called ‘Adipurush’, which is apparently a cinematic adaptation of the Ramayana. ‘Adipurush’ will reportedly feature Prabhas as Lord Rama while Saif Ali Khan will essay the role of Ravana. Both these projects are eagerly awaited.
