Applause Entertainment, the makers behind SonyLIV‘s superhit show ‘Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story’ are ready to bring yet another biopic to screen based on Kingshuk Nag’s book ‘The Double Life Of Ramalinga Raju’. This latest upcoming thriller series will feature one of India’s biggest corporate fraud.
The bilingual show will chronicle the rise and collapse of Ramalinga Raju and his company Satyam Computers Services, one of India’s leading IT companies at one point in time. The series will premiere on SonyLIV and will cover his journey from 1990s to early 2000s.
It will be directed by national award winning director Nagesh Kukunoor (‘Iqbal’, ‘Dor’, ‘Aashayein’) who in a statement about the biopic series said, “The Double Life of Ramalinga Raju has been an interesting read and I am delighted to be a part of this visionary project. It has been a wonderful experience collaborating with Applause Entertainment during City of Dreams and I now look forward to once again embark on a new journey – this time with a riveting biopic thriller.”
Talking about their new show, Applause Entertainment’s CEO Sameer Nair said, “Many have witnessed the story unfold through the medium of news. Thus, to be able to get an insider view is definitely an exciting prospect for the viewers”.
If one is to go by the success of ‘Scam 1992’ and the rising interest of people in such biopics based on true stories, which many have seen happening during their own lifetime, this new show on Ramalinga Raju with its thriller theme should do wonders.
But it won’t come without its own set of issues. We say so because earlier Netflix had to hold an episode based on Ramalinga Raju as part of its docu-series ‘Bad Boy Billionaires: India’ which featured the journeys of Vijay Mallya, Nirav Modi and Subrata Roy.
Produced by Applause Entertainment, the biopic series on Ramalinga Raju will go to the floors soon and will stream on SonyLIV later this year.
