DC Comics is going full out. Just like how MCU is now keen on introducing newer characters with each passing movie and series, DC has been planning the same. For quite some time, DC movies only used to be about Batman, Superman, and Wonderwoman. After some years, DC started introducing more interesting movies like Suicide Squad, Aquaman, and others. DC now has plans for even more characters to bring to life and out of all those; recently DC’s Batgirl got an update.
It has been revealed that DC’s upcoming movie Batgirl has made giant progress and that includes the casting of Batgirl herself. For quite some time, creators have been on the lookout for actors and they have now finally settled in with “In The Heights” fame, Leslie Grace. Leslie Grace as expected will now essay the role of Barbara Gordon aka Batgirl of Gotham City. The announcement was even made official by Leslie Grace, as she took to Twitter to confirm the news.
I am BEYOND EXCITED to embody Barbara Gordon, your #Batgirl ! I cannot believeeee what I’m writing rn… THANK YOU DC for welcoming to the family! I’m ready to give her all I’ve got! 🦇💜✨ https://t.co/muq9GuVVk6

Before Leslie Grace, the creators were considering many others for the project like Haley Lu Richardson, Joey Deutch, and Isabel Merced, but it looks like Leslie Grace was the person they found perfect for Batgirl. The movie will see an exclusive release directly on HBOMax as there are no plans as of now for the movie to be released in the theatres. The movie though has an MCU connection. For quite some time, just like how the creators were on the search for actors to essay the role of Batgirl, they were on the lookout for directors too. Now, they have found the perfect pair in Bilall Fallah and Adil El Arbi, who are also the directors for MCU’s upcoming series “Ms. Marvel”.
The coming up of HBO Max and Disney Plus+ has helped both these comic universes in bringing out more and more exclusive content. With a streaming platform on hand, the creators don’t have much to worry about theatrical releases and experiment more with their characters. This case is clearly being observed for Marvel, Star Trek, and Disney with Disney+. Now with HBOMax too, the creators of DC have an extra option to release their work.
Batgirl is not the only new character that’s in work. The company has a lot more in the store like Black Adam, Blackhawk, Cyborg, Supergirl, Green Lantern Corps, Nightwing, Lobo, Static Shock, Blue Beetle, Hourman, Peacemaker, New Joker movie, and so much more. Even if these go for theatrical releases, they will for sure release on HBOMax, giving them an extra benefit.
As of now, there are release dates attached to the movie. For further updates on Batgirl, keep an eye out for Binged.com
