Netflix is going above and beyond with the recent book adaptations. Be it turning books into a movie like the “All The Boys” trilogy or hit series like “Bridgerton”, Netflix has done it all. Now, it has been confirmed that Netflix has bagged the rights for bringing a comic book to the streaming platform. “Shadecraft” created by Joe Henderson and artist Lee Garbett is a comic book that hasn’t even been released yet. The much awaited comic book by Image Comics will be coming for the fans on the 31st of March. As of now, the comic book most likely seems to be going the web-series route.
The comic adaptation has been already directed to be written by Joe Henderson, who has been the showrunner for Netflix hit series Lucifer. Henderson will be accompanied by Georgia Lee, who will write the pilot for the adaptation. Georgia Lee is famous for her works on “The Expanse”, “The 100” and also “Carnival Row”. While Henderson and Lee will be the executive producers for it, Garbett will be the producer for the adaptation.
The story of the comic follows the journey of a 16 year-old teenager Zadie Lu, who like every other teenager has her high school, friends, studies and issues to deal with. But that’s not all, Zadie has been facing a really grave issue, and that is related to the shadows. The issue is so grave that she is not even able to trust her own shadow, like literally. She realises she has to fight with shadow demons, as shadows are coming to life and will be wreaking havoc everywhere. The comic is a follow-up comic for Henderson and Garbett’s award winning “Skyward”. Skyward has already been bought by Sony Pictures in 2018 to be created into a movie now.
Henderson at the moment is finishing up for Netflix’s superhit series Lucifer’s sixth, which apparently has been wrapped up and is already in production and might be sooner than expected. Henderson has decided to go ahead with Shadecraft with Netflix as a part of a deal that he has with Netflix for creating shows for the streaming service.
