Major Difference Between ‘The Family Man’ Season 1 & 2 We Bet You Haven’t Noticed

Major Difference Between ‘The Family Man’ Season 1 & 2 We Bet You Haven’t Noticed

The much-anticipated trailer of the second season of Raj & DK’s upcoming spy thriller web series ‘The Family Man’ was finally revealed a few days back. And fans were not disappointed. On the contrary, the eagerness to watch the show is now at its zenith.

Amidst the well-deserved brouhaha, an overlooked yet important and major difference between the first and second seasons of ‘The Family Man’ caught our attention. In fact, we noticed not one but two differences. That is, besides the addition of ‘Eega’ actress Samantha Akkineni featuring in the show as the primary antagonist.

The first apparent variation is that, unlike the opening season, the second season of ‘The Family Man’ comprises nine episodes instead of ten episodes in the first season. While the precise reason for going with one episode short cannot be ascertained, we don’t think it would make much of a difference to the viewers except the fact that the total number of viewing hours might be reduced. However, on the brighter side, it may be an intentional strategy to make the show crisper and even more intriguing than the previous season.

And considering the Indian web series’ trend, the number of episodes is an aspect where there is nothing much to ponder about. As the number might depend on the actual amount of footage captured. For instance, the first season of ‘Mirzapur’ consisted of nine episodes while the second season had ten episodes. Moreover, both seasons of ‘Sacred Games’ comprised eight episodes each. So there is no definite pattern here.

The second and the most significant difference (rather an addition) is that the directorial duties for the second season of ‘The Family Man’ have been bifurcated between the show creator’s Raj & DK and filmmaker Suparn Verma. Yes, you heard that right.

To be more specific, the first, second, sixth, and ninth episodes have ostensibly been directed by Raj & DK. Whereas, the third, fourth, fifth, seventh, and eighth episodes have been directed by Suparn Verma. Whereas all the episodes of the first season of ‘The Family Man’ were directed by Raj & DK. Meaning thereby that Raj & DK have directed four episodes while Suparn Verma has directed five episodes of the upcoming season of ‘The Family Man’.

Another interesting fact is that Suparn Verma has also written the screenplay for the majority of the episodes of the second season of ‘The Family Man’ besides also being the dialogue writer for all the episodes for the show.

Some of you might be thinking that why the makers have apparently deviated from an immensely successful and tried & tested format deployed in the show’s first season. We would like to assure you that with the inclusion of Suparn Verma as a director/writer, the show’s reins are in extremely adept hands.

Suparn Verma is a criminally underrated yet distinctly stylish director. He debuted with the deftly executed con flick ‘Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena’ (starring Fardeen Khan, Kay Kay Menon, Feroz Khan, Rohit Roy, and Koena Mitra). It was a one-of-its-kind mystery-crime film with a flabbergasting climactic revelation.

Thereafter, he went on to direct another stylish mystery-thriller ‘Acid Factory’ with an ensemble cast comprising Manoj Bajpayee, Irrfan Khan, Fardeen Khan, Aftab Shivdasani, and Dia Mirza, amongst others.

In addition to his directorial ventures, Suparn Verma has also lent his writing skills to films like Hansal Mehta’s spy thriller ‘Chhal’ (starring Kay Kay Menon) and Rohit Shetty’s action drama ‘Zameen’ (starring Ajay Devgn and Abhishek Bachchan), amongst others.

Hats off to the filmmaker duo Raj & DK for roping in an underappreciated talent like Suparn Verma as a director in the second season of the cult show ‘The Family Man’ besides engaging him as the show’s screenplay/dialogue writer. We welcome the move and are hopeful that Suparn Verma will add another dimension and perspective to the already successful show.

The Family Man’ is expected to start streaming on the Amazon Prime Video platform from June 4, 2021, onwards. And it’s needless to say that we are dying to watch it.
