2020 can be called the year of Indian Anthology films, not because of the quantity of the anthologies, but for their quality. With films like Putham Pudhu Kaalai, Metro Kathalu, Paava Kadhaigal and Unpaused, it iss easy to see why that was the case. This time around, the Malayalam film industry is trying their hand at creating their own anthology film. Titled Aanum Pennum, this three-part anthology will be based on the name of the film, which means “Man and Woman”.
The first look poster dropped on multiple social media platforms and it shows the three main on-screen couples in the three part anthology. The first one-third features Joju George and Samyuktha Menon, the second part/ middle part of the poster shows us Roshan Mathew and Darshana and the third and the final part of the poster shows us Parvathy and Asif Ali. No other plot details regarding the movie have been released as of yet.
The anthology series will be directed by Aashiq Abu, Venu ISC, Jay K. Jay K. is known for his 2017 directorial – the supernatural horror drama thriller Ezra, while Venu has predominantly been a cinematographer for almost 40 years now, in films from multiple languages – Malayalam, Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, English and Telugu. Aashiq Abu is the “star director” on board with hits like Virus, Maheshinte Prathikaaram and 22 Female Kottayam under his belt.
Basic information of the anthology movie has been revealed to the media by the production house. The first part of the movie is titled Cherukkanum Pennum, which was penned by Unni Aar and is directed by Aashiq Abu. The second part, titled Rachiyamma, will feature Roshan Mathew, Darshana Rajendran, Kaviyoor Ponnamma and Benny P Nairambalam. This part will be directed by Venu, while its cinematography and editing will be handled by Shyju Khalid and Saiju Sreedharan respectively. The last anthology of the film, which is directed by Jay K will have Samyuktha Menon and Joju George in the lead roles. This part which was scripted by Santhosh Echikkanam will be set in the 50s.
