August is proving to be an exceptionally busy month on Indian OTT. It seems as if the floodgates have opened up, to shower a deluge of Indian films on streaming platforms. A gazillion Indian films are set to release on all the top OTT platforms in India – Netflix, Amazon Prime, SonyLIV, Disney Plus Hotstar, ZEE5, Aha Video, and more.

1. D Block – Already streaming, Prime Video, Tamil
A coming-of-age thriller and murder mystery film, starring Arulnithi and Avantika Mishra
2. Habaddi – Already streaming, Netflix, Marathi
A classic underdog story of a young orphaned boy, Manya, with a speech impediment, who finds meaning and purpose to his life when he takes up the sport of Kabaddi. It also gives the lad a chance to impress the girl he likes.
3. Kaduva – August 4, Prime Video, Malayalam
Kaduva centres on a rubber plantation owner, Kaduvakunnel Kuriyachan, aka Kaduva, and his hard-hitting enmity with local top cop, IG Joseph Chandy. Prithviraj Sukumaran plays Kaduva, while Vivek Oberoi plays Chandy.
4. Aavasa vyuham – August 4, SonyLIV, Malayalam
An environmental mockumentary and comedy, centred on a small island in Kochi, and the fight for its fragile ecosystem against a petroleum company. The film is told through the perspective of a quirky character called Joy (Rahul Rajagopal).
5. Darlings – August 5, Netflix, Hindi
A dark comedy film, starring Alia Bhatt and Shefali Shah as a daughter-mother duo, along with Vijay Varma and Roshan Mathew. A story of domestic abuse, retribution and unlikely revenge. Darlings is Alia Bhatt’s debut film as producer.
6. John Luther – August 5, Manorama Max, Malayalam
‘John Luther’ is a thriller film, centred on a dedicated cop who loses his hearing in an accident in the course of an investigation. Hampered by his hearing defect, John must stop a psychopathic criminal from killing more people. Stars Jayasurya, Athmiya Rajan, among others.
7. Maha – August 5, Aha Tamil, Tamil
Hansika Motwani stars as a mother who loses her child to a psycho killer’s killing spree, and goes in search for answers. The film has a cameo by Silambarasan TR.
8. Pakka Commercial – August 5, Netflix, Aha Video, Telugu
Gopichand and Raashi Khanna star in the family entertainer. Gopichand plays a hotshot but money-minded lawyer who comes up against his own ex-judge father (Sathyaraj) in a case that involves his father’s past.
9. Happy Birthday – August 8, Netflix, Telugu
Lavanya Tripathi and Naresh Agastya star in this madcap movie about what happens when a bunch of people congregates at an upscale hotel for various reasons right after a bill that allows citizens to carry firearms is passed.
10. Rashtra Kavach Om – August 11, ZEE5, Hindi
Aditya Roy Kapur stars as Om, a soldier who must battle terrorists and amnesia, in order to prove his father’s innocence who is arrested for betraying his country. Also stars Sanjana Sanghi, Prachi Shah, Jackie Shroff, Ashutosh Rana, Prakash Raj.
11. Beautiful Billo – August 11, ZEE5, Punjabi
Beautiful Billo stars Neeru Bajwa as a pregnant Billo who is secretly staying at Navi’s empty house in the UK. Hilarity and chaos ensue when the newly-wed Navi and Sonika shift there too. Also stars Rubina Bajwa, Roshan Prince, and Raghveer Boli.
12. The Warrior – August 11, Disney Plus Hotstar, Tamil-Telugu
The Warrior is an action drama film, Ram Pothineni stars as Satya, an MBBS graduate, who fights back against ruthless gangster Guru (Aadhi Pinisetty), who is involved in the medical mafia. Also stars Krithi Shetty.
13. Window Seat – August 11, ZEE5, Kannada
Starring Nirup Bhandari, Sanjana Anand, Amrutha Iyengar, Window Seat centres on a train traveller, who loves his seat at the window on his daily commute. Things take a turn when he witnesses the murder of a woman he sees daily on his daily commute from his window seat. A gripping whodunit.
14. Gargi – August 12, SonyLIV, Tamil
A hard-hitting legal drama starring Sai Pallavi as Gargi. The film centres around a child’s sexual abuse case, and Gargi’s determination to do right by her, no matter the consequences for her own family.
15. Thank You – August 12, Prime Video, Telugu
Thank You stars Naga Chaitanya as a self-centred, successful young man who realises the virtue of relationships. He goes into his past to express gratitude to the people who made him what he is today. Also stars Raashi Khanna, Malavika Nair, Avika Gor, Sai Sushanth Reddy and Prakash Raj.
16. Cadaver – August 12, Disney Plus Hotstar, Tamil
‘Cadaver’ is a murder mystery film, which stars Amala Paul as a forensic science expert, who’s faced with a confounding murder mystery. The police are clueless about the murder, which is when Amala Paul’s forensic expert is called upon to aid in the investigation.
17. Yaanai – August 12, ZEE5, Tamil
Yaanai is an action and family drama, centred on a family comprising an influential father, his four sons and their complicated relationships. The film stars Arun Vijay and Priya Bhavani Shankar as leads. Ramachandra Raju plays the primary antagonist in Yaanai.
18. Nikamma – August 14, Netflix, Hindi
Abhimanyu Dassani stars as a aimless young man who lives with his sister-in-law (Shilpa Shetty), and has bad blood with her. The duo must put aside their differences when they find themselves in a brutal, lawless town. Also stars Shirley Setia, Abhimanyu Singh, among others.
