Last week was marked with the arrival of some exciting Indian OTT titles including several films and web series such ‘Good Luck Jerry’, ‘Rocketry: The Nambi Effect’, ‘19(1)(a)’, ‘777 Charlie’, ‘Rangbaaz Season-3’, and ‘Case Toh Banta Hai’, to name a few.
Likewise, the current week too has some eagerly anticipated OTT films and web series coming up. For this article, we have compiled a list of the top Indian titles streaming on OTT platforms this week.
Habaddi (Streaming on Netflix from 1st August)
The comedy drama movie follows the story of a young boy named Manya, who wants to go to Mumbai to meet someone special. For that, he must be a part of his school’s Kabaddi team. But the problem is he can’t speak the words ‘Kabaddi Kabaddi’ properly due to his stammering. Will he make it to the team?
Aavasa Vyuham (Streaming on SonyLIV from 4th August)
The mockumentary Malayalam film based on human-nature relationship revolves around Joy, a man who has a beautiful connection with nature but is distant from humans. The premise is about the hunt for a rare species of amphibian.
Kaduva (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video from 4th August)
Helmed by Shaji Kailas (Director – Ekalavyan, Narasimham), ‘Kaduva’ takes place during the 1990s period and follows the story of a young an influential rubber planter Kaduvakunnel Kuruvachan (Prithviraj) from Mundakayam and his enmity with a senior cop D.I.G. Joseph Chandy (Vivek Oberoi). Samyuktha Menon has essayed the role of Prithviraj’s wife.
The Great Weddings of Munnes (Streaming on Voot from 4th August)
The ten-episode web series follows the titular protagonist Munnes Kumar Yadav (Abhishek Banerjee), a regular middle-class bachelor who is desperate to find a bride but is rejected by all the girls he has met until now. Then a woman named Mahi (Barkha Singh) enters his life, but his happiness is short-lived and leads to hilarious consequences.
Darlings (Streaming on Netflix from 5th August)
‘Darlings’ is a black comedy film that revolves around a mother-daughter duo (played by Shefali Shah and Alia Bhatt) that is set against the backdrop of a conservative and lower-middle-class Mumbai neighbourhood. The story is about how Alia Bhatt’s character Badru thinks that her husband (Vijay Varma) will change after he stops his drinking habit. But when things go out of control, both these women set out to exact revenge in their own amateurish way.
Crash Course (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video from 5th August)
The series focuses on the struggles, aspirations, love stories, and friendships among a group of students studying for competitive exams in the education hub Kota. The story is set amidst the backdrop of fierce rivalry between two of the biggest coaching institutes in Kota.
Victim – Who is Next? (Streaming on SonyLIV from 5th August)
The Tamil language anthology series has been helmed by Chimbu Devan, M Rajesh, Pa.Ranjith and Venkat Prabhu. The anthology narrates four different stories showcasing different kinds of victims of crimes. The themes of the stories range from a fantasy thriller to a haunted house story to a caste discrimination story, etc.
Pakka Commercial (Streaming on Aha Video, Netflix (TBA) from 5th August)
Helmed by Maruthi, the courtroom action-comedy movie follows an upright judge Suryanarayana (Sathyaraj) who gives up his profession after an unfortunate verdict. To make amends, he tries to bring up his son Lucky (Gopichand) as a righteous lawyer, but Lucky turns out to be a money-minded aka ‘pakka commercial’ lawyer. What happens when Suryanarayana dons the black attire again but this time, to face his own son?
