Tovino Thomas will get a huge boost in popularity when the actor’s two films – ‘Minnal Murali’ and ‘Kaanekkaane’ release directly on OTT platforms for streaming, in the coming few weeks. While we do not know when ‘Minnal Murali’ will premiere on Netflix, ‘Kaanekkaane’ is set to release on SonyLIV next weekend (17th September 2021). What’s more, SonyLIV will release the trailer for ‘Kaanekkane’ tomorrow on their official YouTube channel – so keep an eye out for that. For now, check out the teaser for the same, at the end of this article.
Malayalam actors such as Fahadh Faasil, Kalpana, Mohanlal, Prithviraj Sukumaran and Roshan Mathew among others have all released films on various OTT platforms – many of them successfully. More and more Mollywood actors are getting in on the “OTT hype train”, and Tovino Thomas is just the latest actor to join this “trend”. The actor was supposed to have a Mollywood flick directly for streaming, back in September 2020 – before Mohanlal or Prithviraj decided to make direct-to-OTT films. ‘Kilometers and Kilometers’ was the name of that film, and the film producers eventually opted to premiere the film on TV instead.
While, we do not think Tovino Thomas meant to be a part of direct-to-OTT films or at least thought that the aforementioned movies, ‘Minnal Murali’ and ‘Kaanekkaane’ were going to get streaming premieres, we still believe that the actor will be popular among the pan-Indian streaming crowd. The actor has been an integral part of multiple Malayalam feature films such as ‘Kala’, ‘Mayanadi’, ‘Lucifer’ and ‘Godha’ and we expect him to showcase his acting range on these two films. Actually, with Dulquer Salman’s ‘Kurup’ likely releasing on OTT as well – we will have three back-to-back Tovino Thomas films releasing directly for streaming.
For now, we await the release date of ‘Minnal Murali’ and the news behind ‘Kurup’s’ release.
