In case you missed it, Mohanlal‘s highly-anticipated action thriller, ‘Aaraattu’ got postponed from its February 10th release date, a few days ago. The postponement was likely due to the rising number of Covid-19 and Omicron cases in Kerala and the film producers would have wanted to protect their film from another potential lockdown/theatrical shut down. Well, it turns out that the film has already got a new release date… a week after its previously set February 2022 release. Okay then.
‘Aaraattu‘ has undergone a couple of postponements in release date, similar to most films that are being produced during the coronavirus pandemic. The film originally had an August 2021 release date which then got postponed to mid-October 2021. This too got postponed. The reason for the first postponement was that the second wave of the Coronavirus hit the country (and the State of Kerala) quite hard and theatres had to be shut down. The second postponement happened because the second wave continued to cause problems which extended the theatre shutdown till the end of October.
With the new Omicron and Covid-19 cases currently not being as bad as the second wave, ‘Aaraattu‘ only got postponed by a week. Still, there are a lot more Covid restrictions in place around the State, with various cities implementing partial curfews, even weekend curfew. Some districts have even started to stop night shows for the time being as well. While the situation is tough on theatre owners, the release of films like ‘Aaraattu’ will help them in long run.
The highly anticipated Mohanlal thriller feature, ‘Aaraattu’ will premiere in theatres on February 18th 2022.
