Netflix is now under the hands of a new leadership. Binged informed its readers that after the stepping down of Reed Hastings; Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters are now the co-CEOs of the company. They will undoubtedly try to elevate the company from its current pathetic state but it will take time. Not only Ted Sarandos but Greg Peters too talked about the future of the platform.
They talked about various things that also included Indian cinema. When asked about the lack of Global hits, they said,
“India has an incredible movie culture. Look how long it’s taken for us to be talking about Indian movies in America.”
Also, about the potential of Indian market they said, “India is a great example where there’s huge untapped potential. We have basically kicked off a new gear of growth there, which is super exciting. We’re seeing in India like we saw in Korea and like we saw in Japan, our ability to deliver on the local taste broadens that market for us.”
We are unsure about which kind of growth Ted was talking about. If it is about RRR then yes Netflix benefited from it. But it was merely a licensed film. Real success would come with original films and series.
You would be wondering about a lot of shows getting canceled on Netflix.
Ted stated that they never canceled a show that appealed to a large audience. But they can’t possibly make shows that reach a small audience on a large budget.
Thus it was the crux of his conversation. We will update you on all the new and big changes in the OTT space.
