Netflix India was to premiere much-awaited Marathi film ‘Habaddi’ on July 18. But July 18 is long gone, and there’s still no sign of Habaddi on Netflix. Those of us who’ve been looking forward to watching the heartwarming film on Netflix are perplexed with the no-show at the last minute by the platform. To add insult to injury, there’s no communication from Netflix as to why the film has not premiered, or a new streaming date for Habaddi.
What’s more, the film has vanished from the database of the Netflix app too. Put ‘Habaddi‘ in the Netflix search bar, and no results show up for the film. Surprising!
This sort of thing has been happening with increasing regularity at Netflix. It happened first with ‘Cobalt Blue’, which was to premiere on Netflix in December 2021, but finally made an appearance on Netflix in April 2022. Then it happened with Sanjay Dutt starrer ‘Toolsidas Junior’, which premiered on Netflix after a month’s delay. Both times there was no word from the streaming giant on the delay or a new streaming date.
Looks like the same thing is happening with Marathi film, Habaddi. The film failed to premiere on Netflix on its designated release date, which was yesterday. And one fine day, it will appear suddenly on Netflix, without so much as a notice or by your leave.
Habaddi is a heartwarming film, written and directed by Nachiket Samant. It is a classic underdog story of an orphan who is the subject of taunts and teasing from those around him. A chance run-in with the game of Kabaddi helps the young boy to find meaning and purpose to his life. Habaddi is produced by Yoodlee Films. It stars Karan Dave, Vedashree Mahajan, Mayur Khandge and Rupesh Bane.
