Netflix Had Record Nominations But Settled With Very Few Wins

Another year and Netflix continues its attempt to make a substantial impact in the Awards seasons. For the recently concluded Golden Globes Awards, Netflix had as many thirty-four nominations in various categories across movies and Television.

In the movies, The Irishman, Marriage Story and Three Popes were pitched as awards potentials. For the original series, Netflix had pinned hopes on The Crown and Unbelievable. However, HBO pipped Netflix in major categories related to the TV. Its Succession and Chernobyl brought in great laurels. Amazon’s Fleabag got it’s the comedy and female artists wins.

It won an award each for the movie (Marriage Story – Best Supporting Actor, Female) and TV (The Crown – Best Actress In TV Drama) Apart from them, it has been a disappointing night overall for the streaming giant.

In the movies, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood and war drama, 1917 were the big winners. The former was expected, but the latter threw a significant surprise. It needs to be seen if the same would be reflected in the upcoming Oscars, as well. Netflix is pinning high hopes on its three Oscar potentials.
