Netflix India’s top 10 films and series list is back again with some exciting additions and interesting changes in ranks compared to last week’s list. On the movies front, the recently released anthology ‘Ankahi Kahaniya’ has bagged the coveted top spot. It’s a collection of three unique stories helmed by acclaimed filmmakers Abhishek Chaubey (Udta Punjab), Saket Chaudhary (Hindi Medium), and Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari (Bareilly Ki Barfi).
Last week’s top ranker – the revenge action thriller ‘Kate’ now holds the still impressive third spot considering the audiences’ penchant for the genre. ‘Kate’ features Mary Elizabeth Winstead as the titular protagonist who plays the role of a deadly assassin. The film also stars Woody Harrelson as the assassin’s mentor.
In the second place this week is the fantasy horror movie ‘Nightbooks’ despite an IMDb rating of just 5.8. While the Tamil version of Vijay Sethupathi starrer political drama film ‘Tughlaq Durbar’ has moved down from the second place to fifth spot, apparently because of the not-so-encouraging feedback from a segment of viewers. Consequently, the Telugu version of the same film has vanished from this week’s top 10 Netflix list.
Making an elegant entry this week in a pleasant surprise is Tony Scott’s directorial movie ‘Man on Fire’ (2004) starring Denzel Washington as a CIA operative turned bodyguard on a revenge mission. We recommend you watch this film in case you still haven’t, particularly for action-thriller movie buffs.
Moreover, the widely acclaimed surrogacy drama ‘Mimi’ starring Kriti Sanon and Pankaj Tripathi and the romantic thriller ‘Haseen Dillruba’ featuring Taapsee Pannu and Vikrant Massey have both managed to retain a place on this week’s Netflix top 10 list as well. This substantiates that at least for OTT audiences, content usually takes precedence over other aspects of a film or series.
On the TV shows’ front, last week’s volume one of the fifth season of the cult heist thriller series ‘Money Heist’ is down another place and now holds the third spot. The show comes recommended by Binged bureau and we have rated it a solid 7.5/10. ‘Bigger stakes, bigger thrills & even bigger cliffhangers’ is our review’s bottom-line.
In the first place on this week’s top 10 Netflix shows list is the widely acclaimed British comedy-drama series ‘Sex Education’, whose third season has started streaming on Netflix from 17th September. The latest season starts off with a new term at Moordale School as students get a new headteacher, whose mission is to get the school back on track. The season is currently rated at 100% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 25 ratings. Even Binged has given it a thumb-up with our 7/10 rating with the bottom-line ‘More Mature, More Empathetic, More Fun Than Ever!’
Last week’s top ranker – the much-hyped fantasy drama show ‘Lucifer’ has now moved down to the second place. The show’s sixth and final season started streaming on Netflix from 10th September 2021. ‘Lucifer’ revolves around the titular protagonist ‘The Lord of Hell’, who leaves his throne and decides to move to Los Angeles and owns a nightclub. He begins to work as an LAPD consultant where he uses his unique abilities to solve cases amidst supernatural occurrences.
Last week’s worthy inclusion ‘Turning Point: 9/11 and the War on Terror’ is still there on the top 10 Netflix shows list on the ninth spot. It’s an intriguing and informative five-part docuseries that focuses on the events of September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on American soil, the beginnings of Al-Qaida, and also includes the recent developments in Afghanistan. The show is currently rated at 8.1/10 on IMDb.
Moreover, ‘Kota Factory’ is still holding the fort and is currently placed on the eighth spot. More than two years after its opening season, the second season of the much-loved web series is geared up for release on Netflix in just a few days on September 24, and that’s why the curiosity quotient around the show is evident.
Likewise, the gripping medical drama ‘The Good Doctor’, ‘Sex/Life’, and the evergreen show ‘Friends’ are still trending and have yet again marked their presence on the top 10 Netflix series list. An interesting inclusion this week is that of ‘Squid Game’. It is a South Korean series that follows the story of 456 people, who have somewhat failed in their lives, and they are invited to participate in a dangerous survival called ‘Squid Game’. The winner of the game will take home a huge amount.
