On this week’s Netflix India’s top 10 films list, Kangana Ranaut and Arvind Swami starrer ‘Thalaivii’ has bagged the top spot. It’s a biographical film that is based on the late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa (essayed by Kangana Ranaut) while Arvind Swami has played the role of M. G. Ramachandran in the film. The film has been receiving mixed reviews from critics and audiences, however, the two lead performances are being praised by many.
On the second spot, this week is the last week’s top-ranked anthology film ‘Ankahi Kahaniya’. It’s a collection of three unique stories helmed by three acclaimed filmmakers Abhishek Chaubey (Udta Punjab), Saket Chaudhary (Hindi Medium), and Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari (Bareilly Ki Barfi).
In third place this week on the Netflix top 10 list, is the psychological thriller movie ‘Intrusion’ despite an IMDb rating of just 5.1. The film features Indian actress Freida Pinto and ‘Upgrade’ actor Logan Marshall-Green. The story follows a couple who relocate to a small town where a home invasion incident leaves the wife traumatized.
Whereas the Tamil version of Vijay Sethupathi starrer political drama film ‘Tughlaq Durbar’ was not able to retain a place this week apparently because of the not-so-encouraging feedback from a segment of viewers.
However, the revenge action thriller ‘Kate’ still holds a place on the list considering the audiences’ penchant for the genre. ‘Kate’ features Mary Elizabeth Winstead as the titular protagonist who plays the role of a deadly assassin. The film also stars Woody Harrelson as the assassin’s mentor.
Last week’s pleasant surprise – Tony Scott’s directorial movie ‘Man on Fire’ has moved up to fifth place. The film features Denzel Washington as a CIA operative turned bodyguard on a revenge mission. We recommend you watch this film in case you still haven’t, particularly for action-thriller movie buffs.
Moreover, the widely acclaimed surrogacy drama ‘Mimi’ starring Kriti Sanon and Pankaj Tripathi and the romantic thriller ‘Haseen Dillruba’ featuring Taapsee Pannu and Vikrant Massey have both managed to retain a place on this week’s Netflix top 10 movies list as well. This substantiates that at least for OTT audiences, content usually takes precedence over other aspects of a film or series.
On the Netflix top-ten TV shows front, the widely acclaimed web series ‘Kota Factory’ is placed on the coveted first spot. The IIT entrance exam-based series narrates the day-to-day happenings and struggles in the lives of three friends and the second season continues from where it left. The show comes recommended by Binged bureau and we have rated it a not-so-common 7.5/10.
In the second place on this week’s top 10 Netflix shows list is the widely acclaimed British comedy-drama series ‘Sex Education’. The show has had a successful OTT run for three seasons spanning 24 episodes. The third season starts off with a new term at Moordale School as students get a new headteacher, whose mission is to get the school back on track.
‘Sex Education‘ third season is currently rated at 100% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 29 critic ratings. Even Binged has given it a thumb-up with our 7/10 rating with the bottom-line ‘More Mature, More Empathetic, More Fun Than Ever!’ ‘Sex Education’ has been renewed for a fourth season during the recent Netflix Tudum fan event.
Last week’s inclusion namely the South Korean series ‘Squid Game’ now holds an impressive third place on the Netflix list. The show follows the story of 456 people, who have somewhat failed in their lives, and they are invited to participate in a dangerous survival game called ‘Squid Game’. The winner of the game will take home a huge amount. The show is currently rated 8.3/10 on IMDb and has a 100% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 7 ratings. Despite being quite brutal and repulsive, it’s being called a compelling watch. Not for the week of heart though.
The fourth spot is held by the engaging police procedural crime documentary namely ‘Crime Stories: Indian Detectives’. Set amidst the backdrop of India’s Silicon Valley Bengaluru city, the four-part documentary follows Bengaluru cops and about the workings of four major crime investigations.
While volume one of the fifth season of the cult heist thriller series ‘Money Heist’ is down three places and now holds the seventh spot. The show comes recommended by Binged bureau and we have rated it a solid 7.5/10. ‘Bigger stakes, bigger thrills & even bigger cliffhangers’ is our review’s bottom-line.
And the much-hyped fantasy drama show ‘Lucifer’ has now moved down to sixth place. ‘Lucifer’ revolves around the titular protagonist ‘The Lord of Hell’, who leaves his throne and decides to move to Los Angeles and owns a nightclub. He begins to work as an LAPD consultant where he uses his unique abilities to solve cases amidst supernatural occurrences.
An interesting addition this week is the mystery-horror miniseries ‘Midnight Mass’ created by ‘Doctor Sleep’ director Mike Flanagan. Moreover, ‘Sex/Life’, and the evergreen show ‘Friends’ are still trending and have yet again marked their presence on the top 10 Netflix series list.
