Joey King and Netflix are coming together once again for the film adaptation of Scott Westerfeld’s International best-selling-dystopian fantasy novel “Uglies”. King (The Kissing Booth, The Act) who has been a long time fan of the book series and brought it to Netflix, will star and executive produce the film along with her sister Jamie King and Westerfeld.
As per Netflix, “Uglies is set in a world in which a compulsory operation at sixteen makes everyone pretty by conforming to an ideal standard of beauty.” The film will be directed by McG (The Babysitter) and the screenplay will be adapted by Krista Vernoff (Grey Anatomy, Station 19, Rebel).
Uglies will be produced by Davis Entertainment Company’s John Davis and Jordan Davis; Anonymous Content’s Robyn Mesinger; Industry Entertainment’s Dan Spilo; and Wonderland’s McG and Mary Viola.
Joey King rose to success after “The Act” which earned her Emmy, Golden Globe and SAG nomination for ‘Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie.’ She will be next seen in Blomhouse’s “The Lie” opposite Peter Sarsgaard on Amazon Prime Video.
King has a whole lot lined up in the time to come including Sony’s “Bullet Train” co-starring Brad Pitt. Other than this she is associated with headline and will Executive Produce the limited series, “A Spark Of Light”, by Sony Pictures TV based on the bestselling book by Jodi Piccoult. King will also produce and star in “The In Between”, written by Marc Klein, for Paramount.
