Starting this August Netflix will have a new high-profile Black executive, Bozoma Saint John, as their Chief Marketing Officer. The appointment has come at a time when US companies are looking to add diversity in their workforce.
Saint John has been vocal about inequality in corporate America. Before joining Netflix she was employed with entertainment and talent agency Endeavor where she was the head of marketing since 2018. She has also previously worked at Apple and Uber Technologies.
Netflix had earlier announced that it will allocate 2%, or about $100 million, of its cash holdings to financial institutions and organizations that directly support African-American communities in the United States.
The debate of diversity in America’s corporate boardrooms got reignited with the death of a Black unarmed man, George Floyd by the police. The incident had triggered widespread protests in the United States against racism and police brutality.
