The OTT release strategy for Dhurandhar 2 is turning into a complete mess, and honestly, JioHotstar is going to be badly affected. The film is officially arriving in India on June 5, but by then, international audiences would have already watched it on Netflix almost 20 days earlier.
That is a massive gap in today’s internet age.
This is not 2012 where audiences patiently waited for regional releases. People see clips online, spoilers start flooding social media, edits go viral, and suddenly fans feel completely left out. And that is exactly what is happening with Dhurandhar 2 right now.
The biggest irony is that this is an Indian film with its strongest fanbase in India, yet Indian viewers are the only major audience who cannot legally stream it right now. Naturally, frustration is growing.
Because of this delay, many fans are reportedly trying to access Netflix libraries from other countries through VPN services. To be clear, this is not something that should be encouraged. It exists in a legally and ethically questionable space, and many VPNs do not even work reliably with streaming platforms anymore. But the larger point is impossible to ignore.
When audiences are desperate enough to search for workarounds, it usually means the release strategy has failed the audience.
This must be deeply concerning for JioHotstar. Every day of delay increases spoiler exposure, weakens excitement, and pushes impatient viewers toward unofficial alternatives. In a world driven by instant access, a 20-day delay feels unbelievably outdated.
The demand for Dhurandhar 2 is clearly enormous. The film is already trending globally and dominating conversations online. But instead of fully capitalising on that momentum in India, the platform allowed a strange release gap to become the biggest talking point around the film’s OTT debut.
Better to use vpn and watch netflix online than to wait for @JioHotstar,
I m sure viewers will have to watch bundle of advertisement while watching movie.
