Fans of Grey’s Anatomy and Killing Eve actress Sandra Oh will be delighted with the news that Netflix has finally launched the full trailer for its upcoming six-part comedy series, “The Chair”, which features the actress as the primary protagonist. The trailer of The Chair is funny, pacy and engaging, promising that the show will be equally entertaining, if not more.
The Chair follows Dr. Ji-Yoon Kim (Sandra Oh), who becomes the chair of the English department at the prestigious, though fictional, Pembroke University. She takes over the position at a time when the department is riddled with a scandal that threatens to explode in a very messy way. Jo-Yoon also has the added complications of being the first woman to chair the department, along with being one of the few staff members of color. She’s also apparently in a relationship with Professor Dobson (Jay Duplass), who’s at the heart of the ongoing scandal.
All of it means that Ji-Yoon has to face numerous obstacles on her way to holding everything together until the scandal blows over. To add to her miseries is the niggling feeling at the back of her mind that she’s been put into “The Chair” just so she can be made a scapegoat for the botchy mess-up at the University. At one tense point in the trailer, she says, “I feel like someone handed me a ticking time bomb because they wanted to make sure a woman was holding it when it explodes”.
The trailer is peppered with similarly affecting dialogue, humorous situations and a whole lot of entertaining sequences. Besides Sandra Oh, The Chair stars Jay Duplass, Holland Taylor, Bob Balaban, Nana Mensah, David Morse, and Everly Carganilla in crucial roles.
The Chair comes from creator and executive producer, Amanda Peet. Game Of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss also executive produce, making “The Chair” their first Netflix original series under the duo’s much-talked-about overall deal with Netflix.
The Chair premieres globally on Netflix on 20th August.
